Troubleshooting CommVault Simpana

Linux/Unix Client

If your in a circumstance where your Linux/Unix client is not being backed up, take some of these troubleshooting steps to identify a solution.

Start by right clicking on the client then select properties

A couple of considerations are to be made about the Client Properties page

1. The Client Name is what the CommVault Commserve Server knows and should always remain unchanged

2. The Hostname is how the CommVault CommServe Server connects to the client, this is a setting you can change to an ip address, server name or fully qualified domain name.

3. The CommServe Hostname is how the Client connects to the CommVault CommServe Server, this is a setting you can change to an ip address, server name or fully qualified domain name.

Assuming your Client is not backing up, click on the Advanced tab click on the browse tab

* You can find out what directory the Client was installed in as well what Update version are you on and where the Update Software is located

Clicking on the browse button is a quick way to tell you if CommVault CommServe Server can access the Client, or if the Clients Simpana services are online.

* CommVault Commserve Server has root access to the Clients and should be able to view all directories in the Client.

We will now ssh into the client using putty and perform aSimpana status     > this command tells us what are the Clients installed software and settingsSimpana list           > this command tells us what CommVault services are running on the client

Now that we have determined that the Client CommVault services are online, there are a couple of solutions.Solution 1.Change the hostname to the Client ip address

Solution 2.Add a data interface pair, which is making a direct connection from the Client to the Media Agent or CommVault Commserve Server.

Solution 3.Restart Simpana services on the Client

orPerform a Simpana stop , start

If you see this, it means the CommVault Commserve Server can talk to the Client
