e-commerce site. Now we are very pleased to present
the new Q-Shop: a shopping and information
platform tailored to your every optical and photonic
need.
Point your browser to www.qioptiq-shop.com to
experience the new Qioptiq Q-Shop!

Expertise in Coating
High-quality coatings from DUV to the IR spectral range
! The advent of thin coatings opened up possibilities for implementing sophisticated optical systems. Qioptiq offers a wide range of coating types to meet very specific and individual requirements.
Coatings on optical components make it possible to split beam paths or combine them, precisely control the polarization of light, filter specific wavelengths or wavelength ranges, minimize troublesome residual reflections, or to increase trans-mission.
Our expertise in coatings extends from the DUV to well into the IR spectral range. The product array includes the following coating types:
• Narrowband and broadband AR coatings• Dielectric and metallic mirror coatings • Shortpass and longpass filters (heat protection filter/cold light mirror)• Beam splitters• Polarizing filters• Bandpass filters• Notch filters (narrowband reflectors)
If you have specific requirements that are not met by our standard coatings, our design experts in the Coating Center are at your service, ready to consult with you and design a coating to your specifications. We will check the feasibility and optimize the coating process so the design we create for you can be implemented in our coating unit. In addition to conventional PVD and plasma-assisted vapor deposition processes, Qioptiq has state-of-the-art coating units for ion-beam sputtering as well.
Examples of coating designs:
ARB 2 VIS anti-reflective coating on various substrates; color shortpass filter coating, FKP-T VIS, with transmission in the visible wavelength range, and the broadband TBW-D

Measurement technology
Our core competencies include not only the design and application of coatings, but also the testing of coating specifications using all relevant measurement technology. The reflection and transmission of coated and uncoated substrates can be determined in a spectral range from 120 nm to 25 μm, solved for both angle and polarization.
Our measurement equipment includes a DUV spectrometer, several UV-VIS-NIR dual-beam spectrophotometers and an FTIR spectrometer. We can also measure reflection in VIS/NIR on curved surfaces, for example by verifying the homogeneity of the coating all the way to the edge of a lens.
In addition to our photometric measuring instruments, we also have available the following measuring stations for verification of various specifications:
• White-light interferometer to measure surface roughness• Measuring station for checking surface flatness or transmitted wave front• Measuring station for scratch and dig analysis • Various laser measuring stations that can be refitted as needed• Cavity ring-down measuring station for measuring low loss of anti-reflective coatings or dielectric mirrors
Environmental tests
Our standard coatings are tested and certified using standardized procedures in accordance with DIN/ISO or MIL standards. This guarantees not only the optical performance of our coatings, but also the stability of the coated optical components under application conditions and a variety of environmental influences.
Our coatings are tested in accordance with the following standards:
• Abrasion resistance: DIN/ISO 9211-4-01 or corresponding MIL standards• Friction resistance: DIN/ISO 9211-4-02 or corresponding MIL standards
• Resistance to solvents in accordance with DIN/ISO 9211-3-12 or corresponding MIL standards• Resistance to water and salt water deposits in accordance with DIN/ISO 9211-4-04 or corresponding MIL standards• Stability under environmental conditions (damp heat, cold, dry heat, temperature fluctuation) in accordance with DIN/ISO 9022-2 or corresponding MIL standards
Another important test is the determination of the laser-induced damage threshold (LIDT) of the coating in accordance with EN ISO 11254.
Test procedures certified in accordance with DIN/ISO or MIL standards.

Shearing Interferometer
The laser beam is reflected from both the front and rear surfaces of the wedge-shaped shear plate in the interferometer, and the reflections made to overlap. The overlap region is imaged on the interferometer‘s diffusor plate for easy viewing. If the resulting interference fringe is parallel to the reference line on the diffusor plate, the laser beam or optical system being tested is already adjusted to collimation. If the expansion system focuses the laser beam positively or negatively, the interference fringe is rotated clockwise or counter clockwise accordingly.
The radius of curvature, R, of the wave front can be determined through quantitative analysis of the interferogram. The divergence, DIV, of the laser beam can be quantified by simply dividing the beam diameter, d
beam by the radius of curvature of the wave front, R.

Specially developed for use in high vacuum
The requirement
Up to now it has been extremely difficult to construct optical table tops with steel honeycomb cores in such a way that they were suitable for use in vacuum chambers. This meant having to forego the main advantages of these table tops: rigidity, smoothness and damping. The only option has been to use bakeable, vacuum compatible constructions made of aluminum and steel.
The development
Our system partner, TMC, has solved the problem: The field-proven CleanTop® design, modified with new, patented design characteristics, in combination with special cleaning techniques. And now they have developed a procedure for creating the vacuum as well.
The result
A level of vacuum compatibility never before attained by optical tables.
Optical Tables, 730 Series
The application
A cooperative effort between TMC and engineers at the Petawatt Laser project at the University of Texas has produced a technique for creating a vacuum.
With this new design, using a special steel honeycomb core, the engineers at the University of Texas have created a vacuum of 1.1 x 10-9 bar. The TMC table with a length of 4.2 m was positioned in the vacuum chamber.
The experience
It was shown that these table tops are not only vacuum compatible, but also have a very low outgassing rate. This is imperative, as major contamination would damage the optics involved. The outgassing of the optical tables used for the petawatt laser application resulted in minimal loss – less than 0.1% – during the transmission of the test optics.

Selection guide
The range of vacuum compatible worktops extends from small breadboards to large optical tables, up to a maximum size of 1500 mm x 4800 mm. We would be happy to consult with you.

Universal Lamp Housing Series IL
The new IL lamp series from Qioptiq consists of a universal lamp housing for halogen, Xenon and mercury vapor lamps. The combination with an electronic lamp power supply from the PS series gives you a high-quality, sophisticated lighting system for your applications.
The universal lamp housing is exceptionally compact, and the precision adjustment of its mechanical components makes your lighting configurations easy to reproduce.
The lamp socket, mirrors and collector can be adjusted from outside the housing, using the instrumentation on the back panel. Even when operating under thermal load, the mechanical positioning remains extremely stable. Openings in the top and bottom housing panels allow air to circulate around the lamp without permitting any light to escape. This noiseless and vibration-free convection cooling helps ensure the conditions for stable light emission from the lamp.
Small lamp houses up to 100 W, universal series for halogen, Xenon, and mercury vapor light sources.

PSQ 50 AC Power Supply for Mercury Vapor Lamps
This electronic AC power supply replaces the older-model electrical ballasts and offers outstanding properties which in turn extend service life of the lamp.
Moreover, it provides significantly improved light quality, and can be used anywhere in the world with no switching needed. In addition to traditional laboratory applications, this considerably smaller and lighter instrument opens up many new areas of use, including camera integration.
The electrical ballast is based on a switching power supply. In comparison to the power supplies with choke coils usually implemented for mercury vapor lamps, this model enables the following advantages:
• Energy-saving operation enables a lamp service life of approx. 500 h• Greater efficiency• Extremely low ripple of the luminous flux• Wide range input• Economies of weight and volume
The power supply also generates the starting voltage required to ignite the connected lamp. No additional igniter is needed. The starting voltage is generated automatically when the power supply is switched on, after the safety circuit is closed, and switches off again automatically once the connected mercury short-arc lamp as been successfully ignited.

Shack-Hartmann Sensor SHSLab
Due to their technical principle, Shack-Hartmann sensors measure wavefronts without the need for a simultaneously present reference wavefront. This is an advantage over interferometry where special precautions concerning stability and coherence of both the measured and the reference wavefront are neccessary. Shack-Hartmann sensors work in single shot technique and thus enable fast and rugged operation:
• Single shot• High inherent stability• Broad spectral range• High dynamic range• High accuracy
SHSLab = SHSCam + SHSWorks
The Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor system SHSLab is a unique tool for
• Characterizing lasers• Testing optics• Aligning optical systems• Adaptive optics applications
No matter if the wavefront under investi-gation is aberrated by refraction, reflection or diffraction, SHSLab provides a fast and accurate answer by means of adequate evaluation functions.
SHSLab is widely used in optical and laser industry and in research and development. It features several unique properties that are based on finest hardware components and thorough software engineering.
The SHSCam sensor head consists of a camera, microlenses and cabling and provides the technical basis for high dynamics and accuracy of wavefront measurements.
SHSWorks is a comprehensive metrology software package which covers nearly every functionality one could desire in daily metrology business.
How does SHSLab work?
The Shack-Hartmann sensor head SHSCam uses a microlens array to transform the local slope of the wavefront into shifts of an array of focal spots. From the detected position and intensity of the spots, the wavefront is derived. Thereafter, SHSWorks allows for various advanced evaluations: special representations such as Zernike polynomials, optical functions such as the point-spread- (PSF) or the modulationtransfer- function (MTF) or integral numbers such as wavefront tilt, refractive power, M² or the common Strehl ratio can be calculated.
Why SHSLab?
Optocraft’s SHSLab exhausts the potential of the Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor technology. SHSLab offers extreme dynamic range, excellent accuracy, stability and reliability.
• Extreme tilts and dynamic range• Excellent basic accuracy• High reliability and measurement speed
The purpose sensor! Whether for characterization of lasers, checking and adjusting optics, or for adaptive optics applications – the SHSLab is the right choice.
