4M Assembly

At Tuesday’s assembly, 4M reminded us of the

importance of having a ‘Fight Song’ to encourage us

to not give up and be able to manage challenges in

the face of adversity. They sang ‘Fight Song’

enthusiastically telling us to believe in ourselves. Mr

Katrak later led us in one of my favourite songs ‘Que

Sera Sera’ to honour the passing of Doris Day. Our

Gold Award winners were presented with their

certificates.

Killara Schools Partnership Middle Years Project - Writing

As all the schools in the Killara Schools Partnership (KSP) have literacy as an important focus this year,

our Middle Years Project centred around Progression in Writing, a methodology to help students grow in

their writing ability and skills. For this project, a primary teacher and a high school teacher were teamed

up so they could apply the progression to both groups of students. The five pairs of teachers were

trained in mid-March by Joanne Rossbridge, who explained the Progression in Writing and demonstrated

how it could be applied to significantly improve students’ literacy skills, especially in the area of writing.

The pair of teachers developed a series of lessons and chose

a day when they would team teach one of the concepts in both

the high school and the primary school.

Last Thursday afternoon, these ten teachers met again with

their principals for a feedback session in which they presented

what they and their students had gained from this

methodology. We were all very impressed by the

improvements made by the students with this explicit teaching

of literacy skills in English, History and HSIE. Miss Sachs,

from Lindfield Public School worked with Ms Simmons of KHS

in the area of English to improve their students’ literacy skills

using Progression in Writing. Miss Sachs had her Certificate of

Excellence presented by Megan Lockery, LPS Principal.

Mother’s Day Art Competition

Following our participation in the Lindfield

Chamber of Commerce Mother’s Day Art

Competition and exhibition, we are pleased

to announce that several of our students

have been successful. Prizes 1st, 2nd and 3rd

(respectively) have been awarded to: Freya

B - 3F, Amairah M – 2HK and Nicholas Y –

2L. Congratulations to these students and to

all students who celebrated their mums by

painting a portrait.

Year 6 Jerseys

Last week our 82 Year 6 students received their Year 6 jerseys to commemorate their final year at Lindfield

PS. Here you can see the front and back view – don’t they look fabulous! Many thanks to Mrs Sian and

our parent volunteer Mrs Jodie Stuart-Roberston for coordinating this wonderful keepsake.

City Country Alliance Video Conference

Last week our Year 4 Class Captains and Mr Katrak participated in a video-conference (VC) to connect

with students from four other schools across Sydney and the state. This session was part of the 'City

Country Alliance'. Our students interacted with children from Walters Road PS, Gordon East PS,

Greenacre PS from Sydney and Wentworth PS from Western NSW. All of the groups talked about what

made their schools and communities unique. Our Year 4 students greatly enjoyed their interactions with

other schools and are looking forward to the next VC in a few weeks time.

NAPLAN - Years 3 and 5

Over the past two weeks, Years 3 and 5 students have done very well to complete their NAPLAN tests.

Today, Year 3 finished their tests and tomorrow Year 5 will do the last of their tests, the Numeracy

assessment. We congratulate all students for trying hard and doing their best. Students really enjoyed

using the online platform. Next Tuesday some of our Year 5 students have opted in to re-sit the Year 5

Writing test. These affected students will be notified of the arrangements next week.

Write for Fun

Congratulations to the students who took part in the

Write4Fun Competition from Years 1 - 6. We have been

awarded a Certificate of Excellence for outstanding

participation in the competition.

Interrelate Family Evening Programs -

Save the Date

The ‘Interrelate Family Program’ will be held on Thursday

6 June in the evening in our school Hall. This is a valuable

program and we encourage all Years 3 – 6 students to

attend. Session 1 called ‘Where Did I Come From?’ will

commence at 6pm and Session 2, ‘Preparing for Puberty’

will commence at 7:15pm. The program is designed to

be presented in its entirety as the content from ‘Where Did

I Come From?’ builds the foundation for ‘Preparing for

Puberty’. Therefore, Years 5 and 6 students may also like

to attend the 6:00pm session. A note with more

information about methods of payment will be sent out

closer to the date.

Zone Cross County

Best wishes to our Zone Cross Country team who will be participating

in the Ku-ring-gai Zone Carnival on Tuesday 28 May at St Ives

Showground. These talented students are all excellent middle distance

runners and are a credit to themselves for their hard work and

commitment. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to come and

watch their child(ren). We wish all the students well and know that they

will represent our school proudly.

Go Lindfield!

Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School At Lindfield Public School in 2019, we have a small number of children with a potentially life threatening

allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6.

How can parents help these children?

Choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. Inform your child that

these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.

Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.

Wrong Library!!

In recent weeks we have had a large number of our school Library books, including home readers,

being inadvertently returned to local public libraries. Although this a simple error, this causes

additional administration work for not just our Teacher Librarians having to contact families to collect

the books, but also for our local libraries as they have had to email or ring our school quite regularly to

inform us and then kindly hold the books. Last week we had so many books returned to Chatswood

Library that we needed to collect them ourselves as they were all from different families.

Please take care to keep your child’s books in their school Library bags during the week to help avoid

any mix-ups. To identify our books, please look for our school Library barcode located in the bottom

left hand corner on the front cover.

Happy reading!

INVITATION TO ALL PARENTS AND CARERS - P&C GENERAL MEETING

Our next P&C meeting will be held on Thursday 30 May at 9.15am (after morning drop off).

This gives an opportunity for parents and carers who are unable to make our evening meetings

to attend. I know that a P&C meeting can be rather daunting for most, so I thought I would take

the opportunity to dispel some myths about P&C meetings.

P&C myths Myth 1 - If you attend a meeting you have to volunteer for something. Truth - Come along and meet some new faces. The main purpose of a P&C meeting is really to learn more about our school. It is a great way to meet other parents and discover new things about our school. Myth 2 - It is scary and everyone knows everyone else. Truth - The only way to meet people is to actually turn up to a meeting. It’s just like the first day of school for our kids, we all become friends sooner or later. Myth 3 - If you go once, you have to go to all of them. Truth - There is no pressure to attend any of our meetings. You might see something interesting on the agenda or you may want to raise something or you might just want to come and listen.

Please come and join us. Everyone is welcome! Please see the agenda attached.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS

Chess

Chaos abounds as House Lindfield turns on itself, Lindfield East arrives bent on revenge and

the Golden Grammar Company arrive at the gates of Lindferfell. Or do they?

Round 2 of the Junior Chess League Primary Schools Competition (Upper North Shore) was held last Friday

with all our teams at Home playing either ourselves, Lindfield East or Sydney Grammar (although one of

their teams was sent to West Pymble erroneously so got to us rather late...) Lindfield East in particular were

impressive in a shock result for us. This wasn't the only shock as our effervescent and confident B's overran

our A's in a changing of the guard - every match was won by the lower ranked player! Results last week:

Lindfield A played Lindfield B for a 1-3 loss (aggregate 4-4)

Lindfield B played Lindfield A for a 3-1 win (7-1)

Lindfield C played Sydney Grammar D for a 2-2 draw (4-4)

Lindfield D played Sydney Grammar C for a 3-1 win (3-5)

Lindfield E played Lindfield East B for a 0-4 loss (1-7)

Lindfield F played Lindfield H for a 3-1 win (4-4)

Lindfield G had a Bye (8-0)

Lindfield H played Lindfield F for a 1-3 loss (2-6)

Last week the Canteen continued to amaze with sandwiches, cheese rolls and fruit. Combined with a

rather astonishing assortment of goodies from our Home parents it was truly a sight to behold. Our thanks to

all the parents who helped at home and valiantly tried to keep the ravenous hordes (our own children) at

bay.

This week we are Home and Away - Lindfield A visit Barker A, Lindfield B host St Ives North A, Lindfield C

go to Sydney Grammar F, Lindfield D go to Sydney Grammar E, Lindfield E go to Sydney Grammar

D, Lindfield F go to Newington College B, Lindfield G host St Bernards Berowra Heights and Lindfield H

host St Ives Norths B. Good luck teams!

Music Camp registrations are OVERdue and volunteers needed!

Outstanding Music Camp registrations and payment are now very overdue and delaying the planning

process. We ask that families who have not completed their registration, do so immediately.

Many hands make light work! We are still seeking parent volunteers to assist with various roles at

Narrabeen - in particular, packing up at the end of Camp and unloading the truck back at LPS on the

Tuesday evening. Your help is appreciated - if you can contribute some valuable time to help make Camp a

success, please sign up on the link below:

Another marvellous Cake Stall result!

A huge thanks to the Band families who baked, busked and/or volunteered their time for the Federal

Election Day Cake Stall held over the weekend - the community feedback was wonderful. With so many

things happening at this time, your contribution is particularly appreciated. We raised an amazing $2,000 on

the day which will go directly towards improving our Music Programs and reducing the cost of related

activities.

Very special thanks to Mary Alonti, Cake Stall Organiser Extraordinaire and to the families who contributed

to both recent Cake Stalls - we are especially grateful for your efforts.

Child Car Seat Information

It is strongly recommended that:

Children should not use an adult lap-sash seatbelt until they are a

minimum of 145cm tall.

Some children don't reach 145 cm tall until around 10 or 11 years of age.

Your child should be moved from a booster seat to a seatbelt when:

· Their shoulders no longer fit comfortably within the booster seat; or

· Their eye-level is higher than the back of the booster seat; or

· If your child car seat has shoulder marks, move your child to a seatbelt

when his/her shoulders have passed the upper marks.

This five-step test can help assess whether your child is big enough to be

safely restrained by an adult lap-sash seatbelt. (diagram attached)

The child should be able to:

1. Sit with their back against the seat back

2. Bend their knees comfortably over the front of the seat cushion

3. Sit with the sash belt across their mid-shoulder

4. Sit with the lap belt across the top of their thighs

5. Remain in this position for the whole trip.
