  • STUDIO LIGHTINGCONTINUOUS!-cheaper!-you can see what it is doing!

-produces more heat!-the light can be less balanced

    FLASH / STROBE!-more versatile!-smaller setup!

    -more expensive!-more advanced setup

  • The Bigger The Light Source The Softer The Light

  • KEY LIGHT = main light

FLAGS, GOBOS, BARNDOORS = block unwanted light

  • Lighting Scheme 1. Place two lighting sources at an angle of 45 degrees and you will get three-dimensional images.

  • Lighting Scheme 2. One lighting source is directed from the camera level, an other is situated at an acute angle from a 7-10 foot height. The head of a model is illuminated with a narrow back light. Background is lightened with the force lighting source. That will help you to get an expressive high-contrast lighting scheme.

  • Lighting Scheme 3. You can use only one lighting source with a reflector that is the easiest technique.

  • APERTURE-use single point autofocus or manually focus on the closest eye, deep enough to capture focus on the eyes!!

-choose shallow depth of field to concentrate the viewer on the subject, but not so shallow that it looks out of focus!!

-choose deep depth of field to put the subject in context!!

-controls the exposure along with ISO when using flash

  • SHUTTER SPEED

-use a high enough shutter speed to avoid camera shake(~1/focal length: 1/125 for 85mm lens)!!

-doesnt affect affect exposure of subject when only lit by flash - will determine background exposure or what is lit by ambient light

  • FOCAL LENGTH -the closer you are the shallower the depth of field will be at the same aperture (/8 @ 3ft. = /2 @ 6ft.)!!

-wider lenses exaggerate space, causing more distortion the closer you are to your subject!!

-longer lenses compress space, causing less distortion because you are farther away from your subject!!

-prime lenses (fixed focal length) have wider apertures, allowing for more light and a shallower depth of field
