LightHouse for the Blind & Visually Impaired Founded in San Francisco in 1902, the LightHouse’s mission is to promote the independence, equality and self-reliance of people who are blind or visually impaired. Approximately 3,000 individuals from all over Northern California participate in our programs each year. In over a century of achievement, the Lighthouse for the Blind has developed eight trademark programs. Deaf-Blind Program: Provides cane, independent living, communication and access technology skills to Deaf-Blind individuals, increasing their independence and self-confidence. Employment Immersion: A program that furnishes blind or low-vision jobseekers with the skills and career guidance they need to enter the workforce. Community Services: Programs are designed to provide easy access to innovative, yet meaningful and relevant educational, recreational, social, wellness, and advocacy opportunities for blind and low vision seniors, adults and youth.
