Dust layer on a drying asphalt on the first day

of Spring. Dripping rain onto a mirror clear lake

surface on a summer night. Crispy wind on an

orange autumn evening. Cold sunlight on a

freezing winter morning. These are the things

we love. These are things we consider already

in the beginning of our design process.

The family company was founded in 1983 when

the current CEO’s father, Seppo Karjalainen, was

fueling his Saab. In a car next to his was sitting

a product manager of one wholesale. He saw a

unique, pine cone looking garden luminaire in

Seppo’s rear seat and started a conversation.

Seppo told him that he had made the “Käpy”

luminaire himself. The product manager asked

Seppo to visit him the very afternoon. ”How

many of these are you able to produce in one

year?”, he asked in the meeting. The wholesale

bought them all.

A lot have changed during these 30 years –

name, location, raw-materials, light sources. But

still in 2015 our values are the same: traditional

handicraft skills, high quality of products, nature

and domesticity.

In all of our decision making we

consider the effects on nature. The

fact that we do co-operation with

small, local entrepreneurs has enabled

our chain of sub-constructors to be

within 2 h driving distance from our

factory in Lahti, Southern Finland. All

of our raw-materials are carefully

hand-picked with the focus on

domesticity and recycled materials. We

honor the traditions by cherishing the

handicraft skills which is why we have

kept the whole production process

from designing to producing and

packaging in our own hands.

TECHNOLOGY

Quality is emphasized in our technical solutions. Each product should have a longlife-span and all technical decisions are made with that in mind. We test alltechnical solutions before submitting them into production.

Certified safety

The FI-certification certifies that a product also fulfills standards or requirementsand directives set by the authorities. The FI-certification is granted only afterrigorous testing, unlike the CE-certification.

High-Quality materials

The materials used in our luminaires define the durability of the products. We usee.g. SLS steel, heat treated Bruce, cold pressed felt and aluminum. High-qualitymaterials guarantee durable structures for the whole life cycle of the product. Inaddition, all steel parts of the luminaires are welded to ensure maximum stiffness.

Installation

All our luminaires are easy to install and maintain, seriously. The adapters areincluded in the prize. You can find installation videos from our website.
