12.Dec.2013Dear Mustafa Sarı,

My name is Andrea Flack. I work at the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology in Germany. As part of a study on survival and migration of White storkjuveniles, we, together with our international collaborators, have tagged stork nestlings with satellite transmitters in a variety of different countries.I received your email address from Kerem Boyla, because you might be able to help us with recovering one of these GPS transmitters from a stork that died close to Lake Van. The last location of the stork was sent to us on 11/12/2012 18:00. It was Lat: 38.358588, Long: 43.812098.

We are very interested in recovering the GPS transmitter, and also, if possible, find out why the stork died. Would it be possible for you, or a colleague of yours, to go to this location to search for the GPS transmitter? We are, of course, willing to pay for your time and travel costs. I attach a photo of the transmitter to this email. Let me know if you have further questions, or need more information. If you decide to go, I can also send you the latest position sent to us. As long as the battery of the tag is still alive, we’ll get updates of the location twice a day.Thank you very much in advance! All the best,AndreaAndrea Flack, PhD Max Planck Institute for OrnithologyAm Obstberg 178315 Radolfzell

16 Dec 2013Dear Andrea,  I will check signal location Tuesday or Wednesday. Have you new signal?  Best regard, Mustafa

16 Dec.2013Dear Mustafa,

This is very good news. The last message of the GPS transmiter came last Friday (13.12.). The location was still:

Latitude: 38.3586155; Longitude:43.8121065

Thank you very much!

All the best,Andrea

Dear Andrea, I have two news for your stork: one of them bad, white stork died. Another, it is good, I found receiver. A shepherd had saw at 5 December above the mow far from dead point at 200 m approximately. It divided by sheepdog or fox, I think it may be sheepdog. I attached some photos also. Please write to me post addresses for sending your tags. I want share story of the tagged white stork and you with press release i Turkey, if you give me permission about it. If it suit your interest, would you share me some information for example time of tag, main rest area and migration route. If you want, you can prepare a press release to Turkish press. Best regards Dr. Mustafa SARI (Fisheries Scientist)
