Compassionate Care with Dignity and Respect Not long ago, the Boards of LifePath and the LifePath Foundation completed strategic planning projects. We surveyed stakeholders for input and we asked for thoughts about our tagline: What does LifePath mean to you?

There were hundreds of suggestions, but four words kept repeating: Compassion, Care,Dignity and Respect.

These concepts do, in fact, mean a lot at LifePath. They assuredly describe what we do andgenuinely tie back to the needs of the people we serve.

Yet many other organizations that help people will emphasize other philosophies such asempowerment, recovery, independence, personal growth and being productive. These all are

important aspects of what we do, butthere is a striking difference whencomparing these words to the feedback for our tagline: The missionand tagline of many organizationsfocus on what the individuals in theservices will do, rather than what theorganization does.

The shift from “what the organization does” to “what theindividual will accomplish” evolvesin part from corporate emphasis on performance, results, outcomes

and scorecards. Certainly, we all want to back a winner and cheer for strivers. That’s understandable, but it also points to something that most definitely makes LifePath different: We help people without placing outside performance expectations on them.

We’ll give 100 percent support and assistance to someone who wants to get a job or moveinto his or her own housing. But that support and assistance are based on each person’sgoals and realities, not based on our performance expectations.

I’m proud that LifePath’s stakeholders see us in terms of the attributes we strive for andwhat we provide: Compassionate Care with Dignity and Respect.

P.S. This report is part of our annual fundraising initiative. This year, we’re working hard to update the homes where we provide residential services. We’ve already completed fourroofing projects and have two more in progress. Help us “Raise the Roof” now with a generous donation.
