Prerequisites for problem-free transportation on all roads are the low total weight and the compactness of single components. This means maximum savings in time and money even before the cranes go into operation on site.

Self-assembly system is the name of Liebherr’s advanced solution that reduces load-ing and assembly work to a minimum. Time and money required for these tasks can be signifi cantly reduced since there is no need for the usual auxiliary crane.

Profi tability is also of great importance during the operation of Liebherr’s lift cranes. The focus is on reliable and economical operation for the customer. This is guaranteed through robust and durable components, low fuel consumption and minimal product maintenance. This applies not only to the powerful Liebherr diesel engine, but also to the crane winches, the undercarriage and all other components.

Efficient transport.Solid but light construction and compact design distinguish the components of Liebherr lift cranes. Both of these basic features – low transport weight and low dimensions – en-able Liebherr to guarantee unhindered transport on all roads on the way to the site. All equipment can be transported on standard trucks and many crane parts are designed to fi t into standard containers.

Furthermore, the transport volume is reduced by placing the luffi ng jib sections into the main boom sections on easy-slide pads and thanks to their short dimensions, coun-terweight pieces can be placed below the boom sections for transportation. Specially designed brackets allow storage of the pendants and pins on the boom sections.

Quick and easy assembly.Liebherr’s innovative self-assembly system enables quick, easy and safe erection of the cranes. This special feature is highly rated by the customers since it saves both time and money. Unloading, as-sembly and change of equipment on site can be carried out in a minimum of time. The auxiliary crane usually needed and its related costs are eliminated thanks to this standardized system.

Self-assembly starts with the unloading of the basic machine. The Liebherr lift crane raises itself using four hydraulic jacks (Jack-Up-System) onto solid support plates allowing the low loader to simply drive away from beneath the raised superstructure. Subsequently the superstructure unloads the crawlers, counterweight and boom sections using either its A-frame or boom foot. Hydraulically activated pins, rapid connections and an auxiliary winch for reeving of the hoist rope both facilitate and accelerate the assembly process. All boom confi gurations offered by Liebherr can be erected by the cranes themselves.

All hoisting slings and lifting devices necessary for unloading and assembly are standard supply.

Economical operation.

The powerful Liebherr diesel engine has been specially designed for heavy duty lifting applica-tions. It is extremely reliable, durable and easy to service. The effi cient cooling system allows problem-free operation even under severe environmental conditions. The electronic control and monitoring system checks all machine data. Since engine electronics and crane con-trol are optimally matched, the diesel engine can be directly inter-linked with the regulation of the hydraulic system, which makes operation even more manageable. This provides comfortable working conditions for the operator. The extensive diagnostic system rec-ognizes and localizes possible errors immediately. The low hydraulic base load reduces fuel consumption and, at the same time, increases the performance of the winches. The high-output power pack provides high traveling power and high single line pull combined with high rope speeds – thus guaranteeing exceptional performance with high working speeds. All movements can be executed simultaneously.

The crane winches are maintenance-free. The other components of Liebherr lift cranes are equally customer friendly, for example, the lifetime lubricated under-carriage components that signifi cantly reduce maintenance requirements.

Control system.The brain of the hydraulic lift cranes is the Liebherr Litronic control system, which has been developed and manufactured in-house. It includes all control and monitoring functions. The system is designed to withstand extreme environmental conditions and heavy-duty construction tasks.

Due to the integration of the load moment limitation in the control system, some addi-tional components, that otherwise would have been necessary, are no longer required. The relevant crane confi guration can be pre-selected quickly and easily on the monitor in the operator’s cab. The powerful system allows every possible equipment confi gura-tion to be operated without changing the software. Moreover, the excellent computing power provides better exploitation of the crane’s resources, especially for confi gurations requiring several simultaneous movements, which have an infl uence on the capacity. All of these features result in fl exibility hitherto unequalled in the lift crane market.

All information necessary for the on-going operation of the machine is clearly displayed on the monitor in the operator’s cab. Warning signals and irregularities, for example fi lter clogging, are immediately displayed as they occur. The storage of such incidents allows problems to be identifi ed and taken care of at an early stage in order to prevent further damage.

An electro-hydraulic proportional control system allows several movements to be performed simul-taneously. This assures that all categories of loads can be positioned with utmost precision.

Flexible boom system with derrick option.Only a very fl exible, effi cient and expandable boom system is able to fulfi ll the various requirements on site. Liebherr lift crane booms excel in their generous dimensions. Excellent lifting capacities can be achieved not only during heavy lifts with the main boom but also when working with the luffi ng jib.

33Comfort of operation.

Upon entering the operator’s cab it becomes apparent that everything has been done to make handling the crane as easy as possible for the operator. This can be contributed to the spacious design of the cabin, the adjustable seat, air conditioning, bright interior and exterior illumination as well as numerous other details.

An unobstructed view is an elementary prerequisite for precise and safe opera-tion; therefore, the all-round glazing in the cab ensures excellent visibility of the entire working area. The view upward, which is of special importance, is facili-tated through the standard cabin tilting system, which is continuously variable up to 20 degrees.

All operating elements are clearly and ergonomically arranged and all crane movements are precisely controlled by two joysticks and two foot pedals. As an option, double-T-levers are available for the right-hand side, which allow the main boom and the luffi ng jib to be operated simultaneously.

Easy and efficient handling.Comfort of operation and handling is not only important in the operator’s cab but concerns the whole machine. Safe and amply dimensioned ladders and catwalks ease access to all important parts of the crane. An example for rational handling is the practical wire bracket on the hoist rope. It allows easy connection to the auxiliary rope, which then reeves the rope through the auxiliary winch on the boom foot. Time-saving rapid connections, the Jack-Up-System, spacious storage in the carbody counterweight (LR 1200), the innovative fastening system of the mid-point suspension as well as hydraulic activation of the pins for easy as-sembly are further important features enabling fast and effi cient work.

44Service.Liebherr service is where you need it. A short response time to customer requirements through global presence has always been of great importance to Liebherr-Werk Nenzing GmbH. Today, this aim is contributed to by additional production sites in Great Britain (Sunderland) and Germany (Rostock) as well as subsidiaries in Hong Kong, Hamburg and Utrecht. Moreover, the company is represented by sales and service stations through-out the world.

Especially worth mentioning, is the possibility of remote diagnoses via GSM modem allowing errors to be determined remotely and, in some cases, rectifi ed directly. Additionally, the modem allows soft-ware to be updated and service work to be carried out. Down time is reduced and the availability of the crane is increased.
