Annual LF II Annual Meeting Monday, January 12th, 2015 @ Newcastle Library- 7pm

This year’s annual meeting will be held at Newcastle Library once again. There will be 3 board positions vacant needing to be filled. Remaining on the board will be Kevin Masterson (with 1 yr left in his term) and Tristan Liabraaten (with 2 yrs left in his term). At present the only submitted candidate is Kelly Schmidt to assist in filling the open vacancies. If you are interested in placing your name on the ballot please contact our association manager Christina Dillon at Pinnacle, [email protected]. The new board will be voted for at the 2015 annual meeting and/or by proxy. The board commitment is one meeting per month on the second Monday of the month. Meeting time is 7pm. Special meetings are rare and most additional board business is usually accomplished via email communication and phone calls throughout the year. Please consider volunteering your time toward keeping our neighborhood a wonderful place to call home!

Hope that helps, good luck! Dixie Smith (our Spring Lake community communicator)”

At the November board meeting the LFII Board voted affirmatively to follow the lead of the Spring Lake Community in Maple Valley/Renton and install the sign below in 3-4 locations along Licorice Fern Way on LFII common property. The sign’s dimensions are 18”x18” as pictured below. HOA managed security cameras will not be installed, however similar to Spring Lake there are several homeowners that have their own video surveillance systems. By playing off that knowledge, stepping up neighbor communication and vigilance and putting these measures in place the Board is hoping that criminal activity will subside in the neighborhood instead

of following the recent trend of acceleration.

We’ve all been a bit frustrated lately with the amount of unwanted “petty criminal activity” that seems to be finding it’s way to our neighborhood. At last month’s meeting the board decided to solicit input from a neighboring community (Spring Lake) that has similar characteristics to our own:

• Abuts an active King County park and trail system.

• Off the beaten path (destination location with rural characteristics)

One major difference is they have video surveillance signs posted. When contacted the community about the cost and effectiveness surrounding their video surveillance and this is what Dixie Smith had to share with us about the signs…

“It’s unfortunate our communities have to worry about such things. We don’t really have a substantial system. We did realize we had a few homeowners who had video security set up in their driveways, so we went with it and installed “This neighborhood is under video surveillance” signs on the two roads leading into our community. We might pick up a vehicle type, if we’re lucky. But we haven’t had much problem since the signs have been installed, maybe 4 years ago…And our mailboxes have been hit, but most of us installed locking mailboxes some time ago. Since we’re on a lake and King County park, we do have lots of walkers in our neighborhood (which is probably our best deterrent), so we have meetings and communicate any issues to a community e-mail list very quickly. We ask people to “let them know we’re watching.” Take down license plates and descriptions of people in the neighborhood, etc. We also have a Facebook community page, but we haven’t had an issue in quite some time. Thankfully! The signs seem to help and are cost effective. As I recall a police officer we had stop by one of our meetings (to help us come up with ideas) said the info gathered from such a system would be hard to actually use in court anyway. Which surprised us, but the signs seem to still deter the thieves.
