There’s buzz, then there’s fact. hoopla brings you both.First, the buzzOver the last several months many libraries have launched hoopla in and to their communities with the assistance of hoopla, and some in very unique ways. We’ve seen fun videos, library and hoopla mascots and events, and animated newscasters presenting hoopla through media.

Linda Kelly, Assistant Director, Materials Services of Forsyth County Public Library (proud owners of “hoopla bear”), relayed, “We’ve gotten so much mileage out of that [hoopla] bear.” She went on to say, “Even teens love to come in and take ‘selfies’ with him. They change his clothes from time to time – this summer he’s had on surfing shorts, a sun visor and sunglasses. Right now they are trying to find some football pants for him to wear. They already have the jersey for him. It’s so cute! We love hoopla at FCPL.”

Then, the factsAll this positive publicity has served to generate renewed interest in community libraries, and helped increase new cardholder registration. How can you handle this kind of increase? Not to worry…even with major influx potential, the budget management tools at http://library.hoopladigital.com can keep usage and spending on our per-circulation model within an acceptable library budget range.

We’ve pulled together some statistics of libraries that have enjoyed the promotional partnership with hoopla, and worked with us to get the word out to their community. The graph below maps nine libraries, by location and size, for ease of comparison. We have charted the percentage used of the initial advance monies which, as you can see, supports the notion of a small spike in circulations after promotion of the service, then a leveling out of usage. Both the spike and the leveling off of usage are within the tolerance levels of these libraries’ allocated funds.
