Missions Update of Liberty Baptist, Hampton, VA. August 2009 MISSIONS UPDATE Russia Trip Report This past June Liberty members had a chance to minister in southern Russia. The goal of this trip was to work with a small church teaching & encouraging them. Additionally the team ministered to a group of orphans the church in Russia has been working with for several years. Team members were Danny Brooks, Regina Barnes, Greg and Todd Earwood, Christy Gilliam and Ken McLemore. A mayor from a local town has invited us to return and to work among their people and promised we could use the town facilities! Stayed tuned as we see how God is moving among the people of Russia. For opportunities to go on a trip see our web site http://www.lbcmin.com You may also contact Ken at [email protected] To see a slide show of the trip please click here. This past July 34 people ventured to Gallup New Mexico on a family missions trip. This is part of our continuing partnership in reaching the Navajo Indians and planting viable churches among the Navajo people. Great things happened on this trip. One story that the pastor related in a recent message was that of a clan considered the meanest clan around. We had never before worked among this group of people until this past trip . When our team first went to the area where they were, the kids begin to throw rocks at our team. By trips end two girls had accepted Christ. Additionally several boys were hugging team members asking them not to leave. Over the years God has used our church to provide a consistent gospel witness to the Navajo’s and to help plant a church at an area called Church Rock. Please pray as we seek to make new plans for the future and see how God wants us to join Him in taking the gospel to the Navajo people. . What do you think of when you think of missions?

A trip?

Street witnessing?

Having to raise a lot of money?

Something that is foreign only?

Mission can involve the things above but there is so much more to missions. God is a missionary God who desires all of us to live missional lives. As the children of Israel were raised up to tell of God’s glory so are we to do the same.

At Liberty we have many opportunities to be engaged in

missions year round.

Our strategy is a unique one in that we seek to place people on teams who work year round to help plant churches, minister to the poor, love on missionaries, disaster relief, teach ESL and more.

We are praying for God to raise up people who are willing to commit to the cause of Christ.

Here are a few things we are looking for at this time:

1. Team Coordinator for ABF mission representatives.

2. Ukrainian Partnership Team Leader

3. Mission Center Team Members.

How Do I Get Involved in Missions?

Please pray for our El Salvador team as they head out to El Salvador to minister to Orphans. Leading the team is Keith Walker. Liberty members going include the Brown family, the Crimm family, and the Saunders family. Joining us form other churches are the Duponte’s and Mallette families.

Stay tuned for more as they return and share what God has done.

Pray for Our Family Trip to El Salvador

Did You Know?

Did you know that 90% of American missionaries serve in places that already have the gospel. Only 10% of our missionaries seek to reach those who could walk for days, weeks

and months and never find a person who could tell them about Jesus.

4. Daystar Truck Driver (Paid Position)

5. Daystar Phone help.

There is so much more. Many of our teams can always use YOUR expertise.

The Messianic ministry of Liberty, Bnai Avarahm , invites you to join them on Tuesday August 11, @ 6:30PM for a concert with Ted Pearce.

Ted Pearce is a singer/songwriter/guitarist in a genre known as “messianic music”. The characteristics of this style are joyful praises and intimately worshipful melodies often accompanied by hebraic dance, banners, shofar blowing, clapping, and lots of singing! Ted’s songs are designed to bring people of diverse backgrounds together in the unity of the Holy Spirit as we worship the God of Israel with His Word as our common denominator.

Ted has been touring almost non-stop since the release of his first CD on Galilee of the Nations Records (Provident/Integrity).

Did You Know?

There are approximately 44,000 + Southern Baptist Churches. The IMB , our

international missions sending agency, classifies those

churches into 5 categories according to their mission ministries level of work. Number 5 is the highest category a church can be ranked. There are only 75

churches in that 5th category. Liberty is one of those 75

churches due to its strategic work.

Come join us and be a part of what God is doing

here and around the world.

A Word From Ken This past week I had a long conversation with a wealthy financier from Tennessee. He runs a 100 million dollar hedge fund. We had met years ago on a mission trip to Africa. During that trip he had sat in on one of the seminars we were sponsoring for the missionaries working among Muslim peoples. We have had the same seminar at Liberty two times. This man is doing some amazing things with his profits. He is funding mission projects in some of the most radical places on earth. Places where a person could walk for days and weeks and never find a person who could tell him of the gospel. He is putting his money where his mouth is, to repeat a cliché. He is also funding new film makers who can create quality movies that share a Christian world view. During our conversation something popped up that I never expected. He recounted to me how his trip to Africa was a turning point in His Christian life. It was on this trip he heard stories and saw first hand how God was alive, real, and working today. He, like many of us, had been in churches that focused on things that really did not matter. It was on this trip that he saw something different. At that point he begin to see how his money could be used to fund projects that penetrated the world cultures with the gospel of Jesus who was alive and working today. I guess I share this to say, what about us? Are we focusing on things that matter? Do we really see God as working in the world today? Or is He some god who set the world in motion and took a step back? For myself I am asking: “Ken are you placing your priorities on things that have eternal or temporal value?” My conversation with the financier challenged me to begin to look deeper at my own life. I hope that each of us will take a hard look and ask “ God what do you want”? Of course the bigger request is that God will give the power to carry it out. It is then, and only then, that our lives will be filled with the joy that so many people are seeking.
