  • Remembering Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary

    Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack. He is known among the most revered freedom fighters of India. Bose was exceptionally brilliant and secured top ranks throughout his study. Bose studied at Protestant European School, Ravenshaw Collegiate School, Presidency College amongst others. He was influenced by the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and his guru Ramakrishna. Bose, a nationalist was expelled from college for assaulting a professor for the latter's anti-India comments. He cleared the Indian Civil Service examination in 1920 in England. He ranked 4th in the prestigious Indian Civil Services exam. Netaji set up India's first National Planning Committee in 1938. During his fight for independence, Subhash Chandra Bose was jailed 11 times during 1921-41. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose gave formal instrumentation for 'Jana Gana Mana’ in 1942. He hoisted tricolor on free Indian soil at Cellular Jail after liberating Port Blair in 1943. Bose formalized 'Bandh gala' as India's official dress.
