Angels in our City Competition.
The Interfaith Contact Group in Brighton is running a competition,
Angels in the City, to design an angel to represent the spirit of
Brighton & Hove. Drop into your local library at any time on staffed
days over half term and have a go at creating an angel. You can draw,
paint or make a 3D angel model or write a poem or story to create
your vision of an angel which represents the diversity of Brighton &
Hove. Enter the competition by registering online and sending in a
digital photo of your entry -

finalists’ creations will be included in a published book on angels. Each
finalist will win £50 and have their creation displayed at Jubilee
Library.

All welcome. The competition is open to children and adults. Enter the
competition by registering online and sending in a digital photo of your

The finalists’ creations will be included in a published book on angels.
Each finalist will win £50 and have their creation displayed at Jubilee
Library.

Volunteers’ Week is a chance to say thank you for the fantastic
contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK. This year,
Volunteers’ Week is about volunteering for all – celebrating the huge
range of people who give their time in so many ways. When thanking
your volunteers this year, take a moment to remember each and every one of them. From trustees and campaigners to carers and fundraisers,
this is a great time to think about the fantastic contribution all your
volunteers make.

Connecting blind and partially sighted people with books and reading. If
you think sight loss is going to stop you or someone you know from
enjoying the pleasure of reading, think again. Our libraries can help
support you with large print, braille, new technology (screen
adjustments on PCs, large mice and keyboards), audio books, free e-
audio books and links to local and national organisations. We have
extra-large print and braille books at Jubilee and Hove Libraries for
children and Booktouch packs for babies. Contact -

Refugee Week – Celebrating Arts Culture and Education
Tasting My Future
Directed by Sylvie Collier, produced by Cathy Maxwell, this film
instillation describes how women escape from conflict and their hope
for refuge in the UK. Their stories reveal what it is like to seek asylum
and the effort women make to speak English. The women are from
different countries, backgrounds, religions and beliefs and they discover
food can cross cultural boundaries. On the ground floor.

A curated selection of books from the Rare Books and Special
Collections, chosen for their variety of bindings, structures and

Art of Attachment
A programme of research and artistic activity on the theme of
Attachment with lead artists author/poet Lemn Sissay MBE and
choreographer/director Charlotte Vincent, funded by the Wellcome
Trust and film maker Becky Edmunds, illustrator Laura Bissonet and
painter Oscar Romp, funded by Arts Council England. This is intended
to be a show of ongoing work, including 2D text and artwork by
participants (BOP clients) and commissioned artists (Laura Bissonet and
Oscar Romp). In the Window and Foyer.

Headscapes by Headway East Sussex
Artworks by the clients at Headway East Sussex, a charity that
offers rehabilitation and support for people suffering from brain injuries.
Headway East Sussex seeks to raise awareness and demonstrate
how art can help relieve tension and anxiety by focusing on the present.
Communication and social skills can also be improved by working as
part of a group. The artworks provide a visual reminder of the
emotions and feelings that went into their creation and can help clients
come to terms with their brain injury. In the Foyer

Hidden Treasures of Refugee Heritage – Art Trail
The exhibition aims to mark the 20th anniversary of Refugee Week
in the UK by highlighting the literary, artistic and cultural contributions
of the refugee and migrant communities in the UK and across the
world, with a specific focus on more than 70 countries around the
Euro-Mediterranean region. Pick up your art trail map at the
information point in the foyer and explore the library to discover the
exhibition. More information available about events happening in the
city for 2018 Refugee Week available at the Information Point

An exhibition of text, visual art photography produced by members of
the BME Heritage Network in partnership with Brighton
