Under test for malt distilling. LG Tomahawk offers very high yields that more than match RGT Planet and Laureate.

Concerto is a market-leader, fully MBC approved for brewing and malt distilling. An established variety for which there is high demand.

Sienna has full MBC approval for malt distilling but also has agronomic attributes considered important for the feed sector.

Olympus has potential for grain distilling.

Although no longer MBC approved Odyssey is still used by maltsters and end users.

AGRONOMIC / DISEASE COMMENT

Strong agronomic profile and disease resistance package reflected by having the highest untreated yield on the AHDB Recommended List.

One of the better disease resistance packages with a 6 rating for the yield robbing disease; Rhynchosporium.

Good resistance to lodging and brackling. Strong ratings for mildew and yellow rust but Rhynchosporium levels should be monitored.

Sienna has a very good agronomic profile, good straw characteristics, as well as solid disease resistance.

Olympus has good lodging resistance and an improved disease resistance profile. Nitrogen applications may need to be reviewed if aiming for high grain nitrogen contracts.

Short, with good brackling resistance. Good disease resistance package, however, brown rust levels will need monitoring in the south-east.

Chronicle has a very good disease resistance package with ratings of 7 or above for the main spring barley diseases.

A short variety with very good resistance to brackling as well as a good disease resistance package.

A shorter strawed variety with very good disease resistance for key diseases of the North. Similar maturity to Concerto.

Stiff strawed variety with good resistance to brackling. Excellent resistance to Mildew, combined with good resistance to Rhychosporium and Ramularia.

Ovation offers good straw characteristics combined with a good disease package. Monitor for leaf rusts and treat appropriately.

Long, relatively stiff straw with good resistance to brackling combined with very good resistance to all diseases.
