The Westminster volleyball team, under the guidance of veteran Head Coach Tammy Swearingen, returns nine letterwinners – including six starters. “I am extremely excited for the 2017 season and can’t wait to see this team continue to grow,” Swearingen said. “The team has shown more confidence and competitive spirit which makes training fun for the student-athletes and for our staff. This renewed spirit, discipline and dedication is exciting to experience again and the coaching staff is really looking forward to getting started.” Senior middle hitter Lexie Yoho (All-PAC First Team in 2017) and senior outside hitter Kendell Dickson (All-PAC Honorable Mention in 2017) lead the returning starters. Yoho was second in the PAC in points last year, averaging 4.04 per set. Her 3.26 kills per set were fifth-best in the league. Yoho also stood third in the conference in blocks, averaging 0.99 per set. Yoho earned First Team honors last year and Second Team in her first year. Dickson was second on the team in points with 226.0, while her 189 kills were second best. Junior setter Ashley Barker and sophomore outside hitter Reilly DeGeorge round out the returning starters, while juniors defensive specialist Rachel Moore, right side hitter Delaney Saxton, and sophomores setter Molly Parker and right side hitter Allison Rebich complete the returning letterwinners.
Dickson, Moore, Yoho, and junior setter Shanna Daniels were named on the league’s Players to Watch list. Westminster starts its 2017 season on Friday, September 1 at the two-day Saint Vincent College Tournament.
