Goals
Long Term Organizational Goal:
Get Good Food in Schools. WE ACT defines Good Food as healthy, fresh, safe food prepared in schools that kids eat and parents support.
Mid Term Policy Goal: Get geographic preference in NYC
Department of Education request for proposals for food
purchases. Midterm Organizing Goal: Build a base of 60 parents
through our school food trainings

Policy and Advocacy • Goal: Get geographic preference in request
for bids in DOE food procurement contracts to localize the NYC school food system– Will help improve quality of school food by eliminating
the distance it travels from farm to cafeteria
– Help build the local economy by getting contracts for local and regional growers, manufacturers, and distributors
– Not a very controversial issue as federal law already permits the use of geographic preference and the Office of School Food has began using it.
