And unto the angel of the church of the
Laodiceans write: These things saith the Amen,
the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the
creation of God; I know thy works, that thou art
neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither
cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with
goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not
that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor,
and blind, and naked. I counsel thee to buy of me
gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and
white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed,
and that the shame of thy nakedness do not
appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that
thou mayest see.
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous
therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door,
and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the
door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he
with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with
me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set
down with my Father in His throne. He that hath an
ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the
churches. (Revelation 3:14-22) KJV
Jesus’ introduction: Amen, the Faithful & True
Witness, the Beginning of the Creation of God
Note: Unlike the preceding letters, the Laodician
letter is being addressed without the mention of any
good works. Jesus gets straight to the point, there is
nothing good to mention. If the angel of the Laodician
church does not heed Jesus’ warning, “I will spue thee
out of my mouth”
Laodician problem: Lukewarm, trusting in their earthly
riches. The Beginning of the Creation of God has
declared the Laodician wretched, miserable, poor,
blind and naked.
Remedy: Be ZEALOUS & REPENT

Letter to Laodicia Church
A Church on the Brink of being Spewed Out
He that hath an ear let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches
(Revelation 2:7) KJV
I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I
would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou
art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee
out of my mouth.
Question: What is causing the Laodicians to be
lukewarm? Jesus stated: Because thou sayest, I am
rich, and increased with goods, and have need of
nothing. First of all, a lukewarm state of being is
feeling or showing little interest or enthusiasm, in other
words a lackadaisical effort. This state of being is
how Jesus defined the status of the angel of the
Laodician church. He also stated that he was neither
cold nor hot: cold as in having no warmth, lacking
emotions; nor hot: having or displaying great
enthusiasm, eagerness.
Question: What does the Word of the
LORD God say? And thou shalt love the LORD
thy God with ALL thine heart, and with ALL thy
soul, and with ALL thy might. And these words,
which I command thee this day, Shall be in thine heart
(Deuteronomy 6:5-6) KJV The LORD God
spoke these words to the Israelites (His covenant
people), and the word ALL means ALL and not a 3rd
or a half. The LORD God told the Israelites, that
the words spoken to them Shall be in thine heart.
Remember, what the LORD God commands, Jesus
commands. Note: Gentile believers take heed
Evidently, the Laodicians were more confident in their
riches, and because of their confidence in riches, Jesus
stated:” thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and
blind, and naked” .” Note: They had lost their zeal for
the kingdom of God, and all that pertained to the doctrine
of the kingdom of God. Consider one of Jesus’ teaching
regarding riches. Let us journey to Luke 18”18-30:
Jesus & the Rich Ruler
And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what
shall I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said unto him,
Why callest thou me good? None is good, save one, that is,
God. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit
adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false
witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. And he said,
All these have I kept from my youth up. Now when Jesus
heard these things, he said unto him, yet lackest thou
one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the
poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and
come, follow me.
And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was
very rich. And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful,
He said, how hardly shall they that have riches enter into
the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go
through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the
kingdom of God. And they that heard it said who then can
be saved? And He said the things which are impossible
with men are possible with God. Then Peter said, lo, we
have left all, and followed thee. And He said unto them,
Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house,
or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom
of God's sake, who shall not receive manifold more in this
present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.
(Luke 18:18-30) KJV) Jesus is ALL KNOWING,
and listened to what the ruler had to say, but the ruler lacks
something, (Cont’d next pg.)
Laodician Spiritual Status
and that poorness was not a good status for life
(keeping it mild). As concerning the Laodicians,
Jesus’ letter to them was to warn them regarding how
they had fallen from the truth of His holy Word.
Their lukewarm attitude (lack of zeal) toward the
good things of the LORD God and His commands
were being addressed by Jesus Christ. Remember
the Holy Scriptures state: “Pride goeth before
destruction..(Proverbs 16:18) KJV” The
Laodicians were trusting in their rich status of life and
had forgotten or ignored the teachings that were
given to them by the Apostles. Apostle Paul, being
one of them wrote to the Laodicians (lost letter) and
the letter he sent to the Colossians was to be sent to
the Laodician church as well. Assignment: Read &
Study entire chapter of Colossians.
Jesus who is a Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6)
offers a remedy to the Laodician problem: I counsel
thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou
mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest
be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do
not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve that
thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and
chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
(Revelation 3:18-19) KJV
Assignment:
Find the Meaning of the Hidden Treasure
Begin by Reading & Studying: Matthew 13
Be Attentive to Matthew 13:44-52
that Jesus knows is vital for the ruler to be
complete. However, the ruler becomes very
sorrowful upon hearing that he needed to sell
ALL his goods, give them to the poor and follow
JESUS. The rich ruler’s heart was on his vast
riches, which left less than “ALL” for the LORD
God. He failed to realize that he was being
invited to follow JESUS who was, and is the
WORD of God spoken that created the world.
He didn’t realize that he was being invited to
follow the Son, of the One True and Living
God. Jesus knew that the rich ruler had his
Whole Heart in the wrong place. Consider the
following scriptural passage: “For where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Luke
12:34) KJV Assignment: Read & Study Luke
12:22-40
The rich ruler only lacked one thing to inherit
eternal life, which is what he wanted. Question:
What was the rich ruler’s problem, and why
didn’t heed what Jesus said? The rich ruler had a
problem with Jesus’ answer, which also confused
His disciples:
“Then Peter said, lo, we have left all, and followed
thee “Verily I say unto you, There is no man that
hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or
children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall
not receive manifold more in this present time, and
in the world to come life everlasting”
Question: Why were Jesus’ disciples confused
about earthly riches? Jesus’ answer went beyond
the customary belief that earthly riches were the
way to eternity,
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: the wicked
forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD,
and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. (Isaiah
55:6-7) KJV
Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye,
buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do
ye spend money for that which is not bread, and your labour for that which
satisfieth not?
Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in
fatness. Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live (Isaiah 55:1-3)
