    Skit

Karen: I dont like the new kid in school.

    Mom: Why is that?

Karen: He smells, and he takes my pencils all the time.

Mom: Maybe his mother is too busy to wash his clothes.

Karen: He has had breath, too.

Mom: Some people do not have much, and maybe his mother

works a lot and is too tired to keep up with the laundry.

Karen: I wish he wouldnt take my pencils all the time.

Mom: Here, I have some extra pencils that you can offer to him.

Karen: Mom! I cant. The kids will talk about me then.

Mom: Wait a minute. Is this about what the kids think, or how

you really feel about the new boy?

Karen: Well, no one else likes him, and I have to sit right beside

him. The other kids do not want to do groups at our table.

Mom: How do you think this new kid feels about all this?

Karen: I really had not thought about His feelings.

Mom: Why dont you make an effort to be kind to him, and see

    what happens?

Karen: Ill try, but dont say I didnt warn you. (Both exit and

    return)

Mom: How did school go today?

    Karen: It was better.

    Mom: What made it better?

Karen: I gave the new kid those pencils you had extra, and he

really cheered up. He told me that they did not have any money

to buy anything other than a little food, and diapers for the baby.

His mom works all the time, and his dad left them when he was a

    baby.

Mom: Maybe, you can invite him over some time him and his

    mother both.

    Karen: Maybe.

Mom: Karen, you know kindness will go much farther in helping

    someone than anything else will.

Karen: I kind of see that now.

Mom: Kindness is one of the Fruits of the Spirit that God wants us

to put on in our life. Here, let me share this verse with you. It is

found in Galatians chapter 5 verses 22 and 23.The fruit of the

Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things

    there is no law.

Karen: That is a lot for anyone to measure up to.

Mom: Youre right. It is, but God will help you. He will also give

you opportunities to show this kindness as you pray and ask him.

Karen: Im going to pray for God to help me be more kind to

those who may not be just like me. Thanks, mom. You're the

    best!

    Message

Do you always feel like being kind to someone? God does not

want us to act upon what we feel, because we would probably do

and say things that would make him sad. He wants us to put on

the Fruits of the Spirit. That means, deliberately, get up each

morning, and decide that you will be kind today. Ask for his help,

because you cannot do it alone. It will not last very long in our

own strength. There will be times when we are tempted to beunkind with our words and actions, but we must choose to do

what is right asking for Gods help.

Mephibosheth was as crippled boy who was not able to get

around like you and I. His grandfather was King Saul who wanted

to get rid of a young man by the name of David. You see, God

wanted David to be the king instead, because Saul would not

listen and obey God. This made Kind Saul mad and he planned to

get rid of David even if it meant harming him. However, God took

care of David and watched over him. When King Saul died, David

became the new King. King David had no obligation in showing

any sympathy for Saul's grandson Mephibosheth; however, since

David was a kind man he reached out in compassion and love,

    and showed kindness to Mephibosheth.

God has shown us this same kind of compassion when he sent his

son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. We did not deservethis kind of treatment, but Jesus wanted to do it, just for us. He

loves us, and in return, wants us to love him and others with this

    same kind of love.
