Term 1, Week 3 www.northstar-p.schools.nsw.edu.au 17 th February 2020 Learning To Live Kindness, Respect, Responsibility and Safety The canteen is an important aspect of coming to school and an opportunity to teach students about the importance of healthy eating. This service relies heavily on ongoing volunteerism at NSPS and without this support, students would unfortunately not have their canteen day. A reminder that school staff can be contacted via phone or email, and will respond to your enquiry within 1-2 business days. If you have an urgent query or concern, please phone the front office and your call will be directed accordingly. Parents and carers are asked to refrain from contacting school staff directly on their private mobile phones, except in the event of an excursion. Any queries or concerns relating to whole school matters should be directed to the Principal and will be addressed in a timely manner. We thank you in advance with your co-operation in continuing to refine our school-wide communication. Warm regards, Ms Jesser Principal Principal’s Report A very warm welcome back to all of our families, and a special welcome to our new families joining us this year. We are already off to a fabulous start to the school year, with both classes settling in nicely to their new routines and continuing to strengthen friendships with their peers. The youngest of our learners, ‘Kindergarten 2020’ are all smiles and embracing each day as it comes with a positive ‘I Can’ attitude. Well done Bill, Sam, Bella, Brett, Isabelle and Simon. Thank you to our many parents and caregivers who were able to attend our recent Term 1 Parent Information Session. We are mindful that not all families are able to attend all school events due other commitments, however we endeavour to provide as much notice as possible in order to maximise attendance. Families are able to request a copy of the information provided at the session to be sent home with your child. This will ensure our school community is well informed in relation to upcoming events, communication and school-wide expectations. Thank you to our wonderful P&C who will be continuing to provide our canteen service for students this term. Tori Woods and Sandy Doolin have kindly taken on the task of allocating volunteers to the canteen roster and will work with parent volunteers to ensure compliance with our Healthy Canteen guidelines is maintained. What’s On in K/1/2 All students in the K-2 class have settled back into routines and have been busy learning lots of new things over the past week and a half. Our big and wonderful class of fifteen students have welcomed our new Kindergarten friends; Bella, Simon, Isabelle, Sam, Bill and Brett, with open arms. Mrs Taylor and I are bubbling with excitement (figurative language is starting to sink into K-2 minds) to be teaching such a highly-motivated and driven cohort of students. While Year 1 and 2 students have been busy with their Spelling and Reading lessons, Kindy students have started their Jolly Phonics program with Mrs Taylor. A big congratulations to all Kindy students for their ongoing enthusiasm, positive behaviour and s-s-s snake sounds when learning about the letter ‘s’ this week. Keep up the great work K-2.

Regards Mr Newton

What’s On in Years 3-6 Primary students have made a very smooth transition into their new class and are ready to begin setting their Personalised Learning Goals for the term. Our School Leadership Team, led by NSPS School Captain, Emere Lazarus, have begun planning for ways in which they can work proactively to make our school an even better place to grow and learn together. Staff and students are very much looking forward to seeing what our very capable leaders may have in store for us.

Congratulations to all senior students on a very positive and productive start to the year, and returning to school ready to learn. In Years 3-6 this term, we will be making meaningful connections across the curriculum through the integrated theme of ‘Belonging’. It is already clear to see that students in Years 3-6, and our Infants class, have a strong sense of belonging at school. Well done, students.

Ms Jesser

Macintyre Cluster Swimming Carnival 2020 North Star Public School students had an awesome start to the sporting calendar for 2020. Last Friday students from the seven schools of the NSW Macintyre Cluster gathered in Goondiwindi for their annual Swimming Carnival. Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 got in the pool to compete in the carnival. Mrs Quinlan from Tulloona organised activities in the wading pool for the non- swimmers from K12 while the swimmers fought it out in the big pool. The non-swimmers also got an opportunity to swim in the big pool with the help of some very supportive (somewhat soggy) parents. As usual the relays were a lot of fun and once again the parents got in on the action organising a relay team to compete against a teachers’ team and a students’ team. I am sure the community has already heard that the parents were victorious on this occasion. Carnival Results: The Macintyre Cluster Aggregate Trophy was won by North Star Public School. The Macintyre Cluster Handicap Trophy was also won by North Star Public School Minor Girl Champion: Sarah Ramsay Bonshaw Minor Boy Champion: Will Doolin North Star Junior Girl Champion: Indya Doolin North Star Junior Boy Champion: Jack Tighe Croppa Crreek Senior Girl Champion: Amarli McGrady Toomelah Senior Boy Champion: Dan Ramsay Bonshaw Congratulations to all 24 students from North Star for your excellent participation at the carnival, 22 swimmers and 2 students who were there in spirit. Your sportsmanship and competitive spirit was very obvious to all. Thank you to all of our helpers on the day who are too numerous to name, we couldn’t have done it without you all! Mrs Nixon
