Hang the Poster on a metal surface, such as a steel chalkboard, whiteboard, or filing cabinet, where students will be able to see and interact with it easily. Punch out the Clothing and Accessory Magnets and stage them beside the Poster or set them to the side in a zippered plastic bag. Introducing 100th Day On the morning of your 100th Day celebration, gather your students around the Let’s Dress Celebration Seal Poster. Ask them if they know what special milestone they are celebrating and allow students to offer their suggestions until a student correctly identifies 100th Day. Use a dry erase marker to write 100th Day across the top of the Poster. Then ask your students for reasons why schools celebrate the 100th Day (reaching a goal, past the halfway point, a chance to demonstrate what they have learned, and so on). Choose students to select and stick appropriate magnets onto the Celebration Seal. Ask them to tell you what every piece has in common (the number 100). Once the students have attached the magnets, tell the students some of the activities you will be doing throughout the day in celebration of 100th Day (counting to 100, doing things 100 times, having a 100th Day parade) and use a dry erase marker to write them on the bottom of the Poster. Copy and distribute the 100th Day Sudoku Reproducible. Have students work with partners to complete the puzzle by drawing the pictures into the squares so that each row and each column contains all four pictures. Valentine Wiggle HatsHave your students make their own Valentine WiggleHats. They will likely have as much fun making them aswearing them!

You will need:— Copies of the Valentine Wiggle Hat Pattern

Reproducible for each student— Scissors— Red or white construction paper — Crayons, markers, colored pencils, or other decorative

materials — Stapler or tape— Glue— Red, pink, or white chenille stems—one for each

student

How to make a Valentine Wiggle Hat:1. Distribute the Valentine Wiggle Hat Pattern

Reproducible.2. Cut a 2–inch wide strip of construction paper long

enough to fit around each student’s head.3. Have students write their names on the inside of the

band and then decorate their headbands with crayons,markers, colored pencils, construction paper, ordecorative materials.

4. Staple or tape the ends of the construction paperstrips together into headbands.

5. Have your students color the Celebration Seal andHeart Patterns and cut them out.

6. Have students glue one chenille stem to the outsideof their headbands as shown on the reproducible.

7. Have students glue the Heart Patterns to theirheadband, making sure to cover the chenille stem withone heart.

8. Have students glue the Celebration Seal Pattern tothe top of the chenille stem and allow to dry.

9. Urge students to wear the Valentine Wiggle Hat all dayfor maximum celebration.

Introducing Presidents’ DayOn Presidents’ Day, gather the students around theLet’s Dress Celebration Seal Poster. Explain that it is aspecial day of remembrance, and ask your students ifthey know why this day is special. Once a studentcorrectly answers that it is Presidents’ Day, explain thatpeople celebrate the birthdays of two very importantformer presidents today. Use a dry erase marker to write

Presidents’ Day across the top of the Poster. Then askyour students to identify the two presidents who havebirthdays in February (Washington and Lincoln). Discusswith your students why these two presidents havespecial significance (first President, great leadership, CivilWar, emancipation of the slaves). Choose students toselect Clothing or Accessory Magnets and stick themonto Celebration Seal. As a student places a piece ofclothing on the seal, ask if he or she can identify thesignificance of the clothing or accessory. Tell yourstudents some of the ways the class will be celebratingthis special day (learning about President Washingtonand President Lincoln) and use a dry erase marker towrite them on the bottom of the Poster.

Copy and distribute the Presidents’ Day MatchupReproducible. Have the students show how much theyknow about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln bycompleting the matching exercises and sharing theiranswers.

Introducing St. Patrick’s DayOn St. Patrick’s Day, gather your class around the Let’sDress Celebration Seal Poster and ask your studentswhat special day they are celebrating. Once a studentcorrectly identifies St. Patrick’s Day, use a dry erasemarker to write St. Patrick’s Day across the top of thePoster. Then ask the students if they know why peoplecelebrate St. Patrick’s Day and if they know any of thetraditions and symbols for the day (wearing green,shamrocks, rainbows, leprechauns). Choose students tostick all appropriate magnets onto Celebration Seal andask the class how each piece is related to the holiday.Discuss the history of St. Patrick’s Day, telling studentsthat Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. Askstudents if they can find Ireland on a map, and if any ofthem have Irish heritage. Tell your students how they aregoing to celebrate the day in class (wearing green,making a pot of gold, etc.), and write the activities onthe bottom of the Poster.

Copy and distribute the St. Patrick’s Day Word SearchReproducible. Challenge the students to find all of thewords by looking horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.You may have your students work independently, or insmall cooperative groups.
