1 Newsletter No. 35 - Term 4Week 6 Thursday 12 November 2015 Remembrance Day CLOCKTOWER SERVICE On Wednesday, 11 th November our Student Leadership Team laid a wreath at the Remembrance Day Service at the Ringwood Memorial Clocktower. Remembrance Day is a very special day and the service at the Clocktower is always a lovely service for children to attend. The Ringwood RSL members are very welcoming to schools and their service simply gives the message that we all should live peacefully together. Each year there is a group of schools that attend and the children from each school are very respectful and highly interested in the service. As usual I was very proud of our Leadership Team at the service, but especially when we were driving back to Kalinda and they were discussing the service in the car amongst themselves. Their comments really highlighted to me the importance of these services in, not only remembering the fallen, but also looking ahead to what should be a world without conflict. We really should take notice of the wishes children have for the future of the world. Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the armistice which ended the First World War (191418). Each year Australians observe one minute silence on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts. Remembrance Day

CLOCKTOWER SERVICE On Wednesday, 11

Day Service at the Ringwood Memorial Clocktower. Remembrance Day is a very special day and the service at the Clocktower is always a lovely service for children to attend. RIDE ON MOWER

Unfortunately, our ride on mower was stolen at some stage during the night of Tuesday10th to Wednesday 11

th November. The thieves came well equipped with

steel cutters. The padlocks were actually left intact but the steel was cut around the padlock. If any of our families living around Mundara Drive heard or saw anything unusual, please give us a ring at school or the Ringwood Police.

SPECIAL FOOD DAYS Four times a year we have a special food day. These days are usually hot dogs or pies and the teachers tell the children all about the difference between treats (special foods) and everyday foods. These are meant to be fun days and it is purely optional whether you would like your child to participate. No child is discriminated against if they do not want to participate. You are very welcome to send along your own special food for that day.

TWILIGHT MARKET Don’t forget our Twilight Market next Friday night. Due to the popularity of the first Twilight Market last year we have lots of food for families to munch on for a quick dinner. There will be entertainment, activities and rides for the children. Let’s hope it’s a lovely warm night and parents are very welcome to bring chairs and picnic rugs to sit and enjoy the evening. Performances

Friday 20th

November

We’re all getting very excited about the upcoming Twilight Market. It is our pleasure to

announce that along with the fantastic stalls and activities, we will also be hosting a variety of fabulous performances on the

night, involving both students and teachers! At this stage, Miss M is busy scouting talent among the

students and there is a lot of interest! Stay tuned for who is

performing and when.

See you there!

CANTEEN NEWS Thank you to those students for using their manners at the canteen, it is appreciated by me and our volunteers. Please remind your children that we have a 2 icy pole limit per day. We still have requests for 4 or 5 icy poles at the one time - these requests will be rejected. It is great to see so many children writing their own lunch order bags. Could all parents please ensure they are written in black or blue pen or texta. It is very hard to read some of orders when they are written in pencil or obscure texta colours. It is ok to combine money into one lunch order bag if you have 2 or more children with orders. Please ensure that you write that the money is included with ??????'s order. Hot Dog Day forms for Wednesday, 2

nd December went home earlier this week. If you did not receive a form,

spares are available from the office. You will need one for each child. JO O’CALLAGHAN CANTEEN MANAGER

ART AT EASTLAND

When you’re visiting Eastland make sure you look at all the fabulous original artwork by

David Bromley. This community project is the largest Bromley has ever been involved in. He

believes art is an important aspect of a community and that you don’t need to be an art

expert to know what you like. We often talk about sharing our own art at Kalinda by

displaying it for others to see. This is a good example of art in a public community space.

You will notice that the works are a combination of printed images and paint. Once the

huge posters were installed, the artist added his finishing touches by hand. You can read

more about David Bromley and his Eastland murals by following the link below.

Grade 3 & 4 in the Kitchen Another exciting time was had in our Stephanie Alexander Kitchen this week. Freshly harvested from our garden were spring onions, spinach and snow peas along with other fresh produce, which was finely diced and then cooked to be included in our wonderful meal of Fried Rice. The recipe (which is so simple to make) is on our Level 3 homepage under SAKG recipes. All the children thoroughly enjoyed this meal and we compliment our wonderful Grade 3 and 4 children on their excellent table manners. GRADE 3&4 TEAM

We have had some awesome artwork this week too with finger painting! Everyone has been getting involved in the group games such as dodge ball, silent ball, octopus and dead fish and it’s been great to see everyone having so much fun. We created Santa masks with paper plates, cellophane and paper, and made poppies for Remembrance Day. There were also same amazing paintings of poppies made! Some yummy snacks this week, fruit salad, smoothies, nachos, corn on the cob (everyone’s favourite) and so much more! We even had delicious icy poles on Monday when it was boiling hot!
