ASSURE Friday Lesson Plan
Analyzing the students: One 8th Grade Classroom in West Virginia, Nine boys and eleven girls,
Eleven Caucasian students, Six African-American students, and Three Asian-American students.
Stating the Objective: By the end of the fifth lesson and fifth day, students will have learned how
to use photo shop to create a well-made visual aid for a speech. They will learn this by using a
photo shop tutorial to create an original image based on FDR’s life or presidency with a
humorous caption, in which they will post on FDR’s Twitter page made for this lesson. They will
then use photo shop to create their own speeches’ visual aid, and choose a topic for their final
speeches. They will then present the visual aid to the class, and the class will grade them based
on a rubric. They will do this with 100% accuracy.
Selection of Method: Students will pick pictures that they can manipulate using a photo shop
application of their choice and use a tutorial chose online to create a wacky picture of FDR and
post it on FDR’s Twitter page, created by the instructor. Then the students will use what they
learned on photo shop to create their own visual aid based on the topic that they will choose for
their final speech and present it to the class by saving it on the school server and having the
instructor pull it up on a Smartboard from the file. Students will then grade their classmates
using a rubric on the effectiveness of the visual aid.
