Lección 5
El objeto indirecto
The indirect object does not receive directly the action of the verb but is interested or affected in some way by the action.
In English, the true indirect object comes immediately after the verbs and tells “to whom” or “for whom” an action is performed.
I write my friend a letter each week. They bought their daughter a new car.She asked me a difficult question.
If we move these indirect objects from the position immediately after the verb, then we have to add prepositions.
I write a letter to my friend each week. They bought a new car for their daughter. She asked a difficult question of me.

This is where the “preposition a” comes into play. You can also use it if you want to add a little more emphasis!

The Adverbs in Spanish
An adverb modifies a verb. It “adds” to a “verb” that is why it is called “Adverb”.
He ran slowly. (Slowly is the adverb because it is adding to ran).
En español…
In Spanish two common adverbs are before and after:
Ella habla despues. (She speaks after)
Yo comí antes. (I ate before)
Also we can make an adverb a preposition. “A preposition links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in
a sentence. The word or phrase that the preposition introduces is called the object of the preposition.”
Por ejemplo: He leaves after breakfast.
*After is the preposition because it links “He leaves” with “breakfast”.
En español…
In Spanish we must add a “de” to the adverb if we want to it a preposition.
El come despues de la pelicula.
Yo hablo antes de la señora.
A ver…
I dance after this song.
We sing before this person.
¿Conjuction junction Cuál es tú función?
Remember a conjunction links phrases or clauses. Por ejemplo:
I am going to go after you study.
He wants to play before we eat.
En español…
If we want to make a conjunction then we have to add “que” to the word.
Yo voy a ir antes que estudias.
El quiere jugar despues que comemos.
A ver…
We are going to talk after you leave.
They are going to sing before you pray.
