    READING FLUENCY & INTONATION

    Objective:

    To check / monitor students progress inreading and learn to have proper

    intonation and expression while reading.

    1. Teacher reads book to students withproper intonation.

    2. Ask each student to read an excerpt ofthe book aloud with the proper

    intonation.3. Teacher checks reading of each student.While student reads:4. Teacher corrects any mistakes made.5. Students write down words not read

    correctly in their notebook /worksheet.

    6. While teacher is assessing a particularstudent, the rest will read on their ownwhile waiting for their turn.

    Reading Material:

    Own PM+ Levelbooks for each

    group (depends onproficiency level of

    Objective:

    Students will learn to construct a story.

    1. Hand out to each group strips of paperthat contain a sentence each.

    2. In their own groups, students arrangethe sentences to form a proper story.

    3. Check student work and highlight tostudents on proper sequence of events

    in forming a story.4. Highlight the importance of problem

    and solution in a story.5. Recap process in writing a story.

    Objective:Students will learn to create a story from

    given words and short sentences.

    1. Teacher hands out to students somewords and sentences.

    2. From the words and sentences used,students are to come up with a propershort story.

    3. They must add their own words andsentences into the story to make thestory complete.

    4. Word limit for the story: Between 50 100 words. (depending on proficiencylevel of group)

    HA group: 7 words and 5 short sentences.

    MA group: 5 words and 5 short sentences.LA group: 3 words and 3 short sentences.

    Part 3: Construct a Story

    HACut-up strips of paper

    Minh moved towards the ticket machine.

    Her father had explained how the machine worked, but now she could not

    remember how to get the ticket.

    Should she put the money in first or press the buttons?

    The words on the machine meant nothing to her.

    She did not know what to do!

    The man behind her tapped his feet impatiently as he waited for her to buy

    a ticket.

    Just as the first tear began to roll down her check, a small hand touched

    hers.

    Hello, said a young girl in Vietnamese. Ill help you. My name is Lean andI go to the same school as you. Ive seen you in the playground.

    After Lan had helped Minh to buy her ticket, they both went towards the

    back of the tram.

    Mum! shouted Ben. Theres a flood outside. The water could go intoHoppos house! She will get all wet and cold.

    Oh dear! said Mum. We will have to move the cage out of the water.

    Hurry! cried Ben. We have to save Hoppo!

    Ben and Mum got dressed in a hurry. They went outside.

    We are coming, Hoppo! called Ben.

    Ben ran to Hoppos cage. He tried to move the cage but it was too heavy.

    Wait, Ben! called Mum. Ill pull the cage.

    Ill take Hoppo out first, said Ben. Then she wont be scared when you

    move the cage.

    Mum pulled the cage out of the water. She pulled it out across the grass and

    up to the big tree.

    Ben put Hoppo back into her cage. Now you will be safe, he said.
