that can make lots of books in a short time 是定语从句，先行词 machine 在定语从句中作主语，所以关系代词 that 不能省去。

如： He is a person who can give us great help.

他是能给我们巨大帮助的人

begin to do sth.\ begin doing sth.

有三种情况必须用动词不定式做宾语：

1 当主语是物时，

The ice begins to melt.

2 当 begin 在句中是 beginning 形式时，

3 当 begin 后面的动词是表示心理活动的词，

He began to understand how his parents loved him.
