• “Forensic” comes from the Latin word “forensis” meaning forum.
• During the time of the Romans, a criminal charge meant presenting the case before the public.
• Both the person accused of the crime & the accuser would give speeches based on their side of the story.
• The individual with the best argument would determine the outcome of the case.
At the end of this specialism, you should be able to:• Identify the key features of good forensic
technique;
• Apply IDEALS to the analysis of crime scene evidence and draw conclusions about the reliability and accuracy of crime scene evidence.
• Work in GCSE and A-Level way.
• Why do the officers, who are first on the scene, cordon off the area with tape?
• What type of evidence might be collected from a crime scene? - starter activity

Read the statements below:
On CSI, the investigators go to the crime scene and collect the evidence. They then go back to the lab and analyse the evidence. They then interview the suspect and show them the evidence. They then go back to the crime scene and collect more evidence. They analyse that.
On crime shows, the CSIs are able to complete all types of specialist analysis of evidence e.g blood stains, paint chips, fibres and DNA.
On television crime shows, every forensic laboratory is fully equipped with everything needed to solve a crime.
Modern technology makes the analysis of trace evidence fast and simple.
