Work by Steve Robinson
Biography
• Stephen Robson joined Greenwich Printmakers in 2010. He went to Goldsmith's College and has a background in teaching and working in photography. He is strongly drawn to the work of ar6sts such as Samuel Palmer, Edward Hopper and Paul Nash. The Thames estuary and the coast of Norfolk and Suffolk have been favourite subjects.
I like the images that Steve Robson shows as I can relate it to my work as he put detail into his water and sky and makes the uninteres6ng parts more interes6ng than normal. I like the way that etching can add detail to the print but you can also leave ink on the plate to add mood or atmosphere to the image. I like the simplicity of the design which uses only one colour and tone. This makes it easy to recognize the beach and grassy sand dunes. We combined paint with the etching plate to make detail on top of the paint itself and this made the image that had not any detail or imagina6on in it, to something that has been brought to life.
Steve Robson uses etching and monoprin6ng in his pictures to represent the simple art which can in itself contain lots of detail. He focuses on the shadows of the image he is trying to portray and the skyline with a more smudged effect. Which then makes the audience look at the more detailed parts, which can be the shadows under
Experiments with Etchings
We used a different variety of pens to add ink to the pictures which made the picture stand out more instead of a black colour.
Diana CroT uses may curves and very few straight lines, so it makes her work more smooth and more appealing to the eye, also the paUern of colours is not random but it is depending on the image itself whether a certain colour will match the actual image she is designing. She will change the colours of green and a blue colour possibly depending on the mood of the landscape and the environment at the 6me. Comparing Diana CroT’s work to mine; she has been careful with the colors but I had experimented with over the top colours and not carefully placed shapes
Diana CroT Analysis
My work compared with Diana CroT
Diana CroT is a printmaker specialising in collographs which she produces in small edi6ons. Her prints are very colourful and textured oTen using paper, gold and silver to gain a beUer effect. Her inspira6on comes from nature, growth and renewal and aims to get images of landscapes of her childhood.
Diana CroT uses many colours and technics to get an accurate and being sure not to leave big patches of white in unnecessary places. Comparing it to mine Diana’s is more detailed and has given thought of the images and the shapes that are needed to aUract the audiences eye.
