The greater landscape plan and following playground concept has been developed from information

collected within the ‘Bunbury Water Playground Consultation Summary 2014’. These designs aim to provide Bunbury with a unique playground,

with unusual and bespoke play items rather than standard generic

equipment.

Depending on Department of Parks and Wildlife approvals, the ‘lighthouse’

slide would provide an opportunity to utilise the existing inlet as the

splashy exit from the slide. The gentle projection angle at the

bottom of the slide allows for the varying fluctuating tidal

levels.

‘Fish skeleton’ timber shade structures over popular play elements

Rock steps up to cascades & stream

Custom made perforated steel shade structures to resemble manta-rays

Opportunity to create a bold sculptural feature by replicating a section of the ‘old Bunbury jetty’ using the old timbers. Stairs leading to a crane tower situated on top of water curtain rails, provides access to an exit via a tubular spiral slide Accessible network of snail

inspired pathways allow dry access to the majority of the water play elements

Sand play area provides a link between the ‘beach’ & the playground

Potential to re-use bollards from original ‘old Bunbury jetty’

DETAIL 1: Perspective sketch of Concept Plan

DETAIL 2: Potential manta-ray shade structures DETAIL 3: ‘Isolated Danger Below’ tower

Note: The extent of shade structures have not been shown for clarity. For splash pad shade structure details refer to detail 2.

The ‘isolated danger below’ tower is a water play version of the real navigational buoy. Activated by a timer, the reservoir from the tank above and randomly dumps water below! There is also potential

to include lighting and water features such as misters into the shade structure

posts.

The tadpoles are pressure sensitive activation buttons that sends a gush of water flowing from the frogs mouth. The gentle gradient allows the water to ebb back into the frogs mouth.

There are many marine inspired water play elements that cater for all ages and abilities, including giant naval worm misters, giant barnacles and sea urchin bubblers, octopus tentacle musical drums (and seating) and sea squirts.
