OverviewWayside Publishing makes it easy for districts to get the most out of the Learning Site® by providing integration with Schoology. Districts will have access to online learning materials via Wayside Publishing’s Learning Management System (LMS), the Learning Site®. Explorer® digital resources and interactive activities and FlexText® digital textbooks ensure students and teachers are on the path to proficiency, engaging with equitable and innovative pedagogical resources.
Wayside & SchoologyWayside Publishing is proud to offer an IMS Global certified Thin Common Cartridge available for districts’ use. Importing the Learning Site® as a Thin Common Cartridge (TCC) provides users with easy access to the clean and user-friendly Learning Site® user interface. When you’re ready, we simply connect with you to pass a consumer key, shared secret, and an .IMSCC file that will allow you to import a Wayside Publishing Learning Site® world language program via Thin Common Cartridge and connect across platforms. Learning Site® users need to be provisioned with accounts created on the Learning Site® before they can use the Schoology TCC integration. No complicated and time-consuming configuration is required.

Installing the Wayside Publishing Learning Site® Thin Common Cartridge (TCC) 1. Contact Wayside Publishing’s Learning Site® technical support to receive the key/secret and an
.IMSCC file for each world language program for your institution.
2. In your Schoology account, navigate to the Resources tab at the top of the page.
3. Once here, click the arrow dropdown next to My Resources and choose Import.

6. On the next screen, click Attach File and choose the IMSCC file you’d like to import. When attached, click Next and the import step will start.
5. In the Import Collection window, select Common Cartridge (IMSCC or ZIP) and Import to New Collection, and name the collection whatever you’d like. We recommend naming it after the textbook. Click Next to select the IMSCC file you want to import.

7. Navigate to your Transfer History page by clicking on your profile in the top right, then click the Transfer History tab. You’ll be able to monitor the progress of your TCC upload. This process may take several minutes. You also may receive an email from Schoology when the TCC upload process is complete.
8. Once your TCC has finished uploading, you’ll see the collection in your Resources page. Navigate back to your course, and click Add Materials, and then Import from Resources.

9. In the Import from Resources screen, click on the collection that you just uploaded, and then click the checkboxes that are next to the folders you’d like to select to import.
NOTE: Schoology has a 750 object import limit, so you may need to do this step a few times to import the entire textbook.
10. Once you click Import, it will take a little time to add it to your course. You may check your status from the Transfer History window.
11. Once your content has been imported, it will be available from the Materials window.

12. As a final step, you’ll need to add a new External Tool Provider. To do this, please navigate to the Course Options tab, then click External Tool Providers.
13. Click Add External Tool Provider, and enter in the following information:
• Tool Name: Name the tool after the Wayside title
• Consumer Key: Enter the Consumer Key provided to your district
• Shared Secret: Enter the Shared Secret provided to your district
• Privacy: Send Name and Email/Username of user
• Configuration Type: Manual
• Match Type: Domain
• Domain/URL: learningsite.waysidepublishing.com

14. Once you’ve added the external tool provider, navigate back to your course Materials page. Here, you’ll be able to navigate through the folders to find the activities for your textbook.

Enabling Grades Passback for AssignmentsGrades passback is a feature of Schoology that allows grades to automatically move from the Learning Site to your Schoology gradebook. To create an assignment with grades passback, follow these steps.
Grades passback only works for tasks that are manually or automatically graded in the Learning Site®. Formative or summative assessments are examples of these types of online activities.
1. After importing your TCC content into your Schoology course, find the activity you’d like to assign, and click the Gear icon next to the activity. Click Edit, and then check the Enable Grading checkbox. Fill out the form as needed.
2. Once you click Save Changes, the course content will be added to the Schoology gradebook.
3. If the activity is automatically graded by the Learning Site®, then the grade will appear immediately in the Schoology gradebook after the student submits the grade.

4. If your assignment needs teacher review, such as an essay or recording task, then you will need to visit the Grades module from your TCC links, grade the student’s work within this pane, and then, once you’ve entered the grade, it will get pushed to Schoology.
