Many classes have been hard at work designing habitats for the Habitat Heroes challenge. The winning design will be built on school grounds over the holidays and Term 4. We are excited to see lots of collaboration among students to create a habitat for local plants and animals right here at school! Classes have been learning about what a habitat includes and what different plants and animals need to survive. Students have been participating in the final weeks of the Premier’s Reading Challenge and recording the books they have read beside the library. We are slowly filling up our book thermometer and are thrilled to see so many classes excited about reading! Thank you to all the Early Years students, staff and families for an incredible Term 3! It has been wonderful to see all of the hard work and fantastic learning happening across Early Years! Have a fun and relaxing break and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school for a busy Term 4! Don’t forget that we will have our second week of swimming in either Weeks 3 or 4. Middle Years Learning Centre LeaderWith Term 3 coming to an end I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the amazing staff and students from Middle Years. This term students have participated in a range of exciting excursions, learning activities and extra-curricular activities. They have worked extremely hard this term and have accomplished a lot. Parents are able to view their child’s work through their Term 3 e-portfolio folder on Seesaw. Please take the time to look through Seesaw and give feedback to your child on their achievements.

On Saturday 15th September students from Warringa Park School participated in the States School Spectacular at Hisense Arena. There were 12 students in total who represented our school, 10 of whom were from Middle Years. The students performed in several dances throughout the event. They worked extremely hard this year practicing their dance routines to make sure that they remembered all of the steps. Thank you to Kacey and Emilia for organizing Warringa Park School’s participation in the event and for all of their hard work supporting the students to learn and practice the dance routines.

This Thursday 20th September students from Multimedia will be attending an end of term excursion at Aqua Pulse. Students will be using the waterslide and water park as a reward to celebrate all of their hard work and amazing learning from this term. Well-done Multimedia!

This term Middle Year students have been learning about habitats and their impact. Students from Group 32 went on an excursion to the Heathdale Wetlands to explore a local habitat and put their learning into practice. They saw local bird life, plants that grow in the water and a range of different grasses that surrounded the wetlands.

On Friday 21st September Warringa Park School will be holding its Term 3 Assembly. There will be several videos from Middle Years students being shown such as ‘Pod News’, ‘Blackwood Camp Report’ and ‘SRC reflection’. There will also be four students from Multimedia and Middle Years receiving PBIS and principal rewards, celebrating their hard work and achievements over the past term.

Again a big thank-you to all of the staff and students from Middle Years for a fantastic Term 3! Have a wonderful relaxing holiday and I look forward to seeing you at the beginning of term 4.

Groups 39, 40, 41 & 42We can’t believe how fast this term has gone by! Recently, PLT 2 has been learning about re-using and recycling. We have reviewed our knowledge of what we can do to help our environment and look after our planet. In literacy, our students have been reading and completing writing activities about a book entitled ‘What If Everybody Did That?’. This is an engaging picture story book about a young boy who is faced with many everyday choices and decisions! Our students and staff have enjoyed working together to decide whether these decisions were ‘good choices’ or ‘bad choices’ and discussing the impact ‘if everybody did that’.

Numeracy has also been engaging for our students this week. PLT 2 have revisited our knowledge of pattern. Our learners were given the opportunity to spend some time outside in the sunshine participating in a pattern hunt! We have also been

making different patterns with many different resources in our classrooms including counters, sticks, stickers and stamps.

We hope everybody has had a great week like we have. Happy holidays everyone! We hope everyone has a relaxing break and enjoy spending time with friends and family.

Groups 24, 25, 32, 33 & 34 A big welcome to week 10 and the last week of term 3! What a busy and very exciting term it has been with Camp, excursions, science week, literacy and numeracy week and book week! Thank you to those parents who came in to their child’s class at some stage throughout the term, whether it be for a visit or to join in with a special event! Student from Group 24 celebrated making good choices throughout the term by having a pizza party on the second last day of school! A great time was had by all! We hope you all have a safe and relaxing break and we look forward to another fun and exciting term! Thank you.Olivia

BRC NewsWe have had lots of exciting activities happening at BRC over week 9 and 10 including our students competing at various sporting competitions. We were really proud of our students who performed in the State School Spectacular last weekend which included Chloe C, Taylor R-E, Delta L and Teagan Van S. Well done girls on an amazing show!

All students have been working on creating a ninja warrior course in their PE lessons this term. Students have been working together to create and practise obstacle courses that have been shared with their peers. To celebrate their efforts, students travelled to Bounce in Glen Iris to try out the obstacle courses. The students all enjoyed the excursion and realised the courses they see on TV are a lot harder than they thought!

On Monday all classes attended a soccer clinic at BRC organised by Emilia Tessaro where students practiced skills, which culminated in a full field match. We had excellent feedback from Melbourne Victory who said they’d be happy to come back in Term 4 and the coach was very impressed with the students’ behaviour and effort.

On Wednesday 12th September we had a group of students attend the Herald Sun State Football final where the Northern Special Schools competed against the South East. BRC had five representatives in the team including Bailey G, Hussein El H, Noah D, Rhys J and Kyaw Ku Wah. The boys played extremely well and lost by a goal in the final.

We also had a boys and girls team compete at the Hockey State Championship on Wednesday 19th September. The students all played extremely well and the girls came away in third place and the boys team in fifth place. We had Ashley B, Shannon K and Teagan Van S selected to compete in the State team which is an amazing accomplishment, well done to all the students involved!

The Later Years SRC students have been busy meeting this term to discuss school events and promote collaboration throughout Later Years. They worked together to organise the Souperhero day to raise money for the Salvation Army. Students were encouraged to dress up as their favourite superheros for a gold coin donation. Students also made and sold soup and toasted sandwiches to raise money. The SRC students attended a celebration meeting at Café 11 where they had the opportunity to reflect on the term and speak to the younger students about events they attended. The SRC also selected two students to receive a collaboration award for term 3. The students they selected to receive these awards were Shannon K and Nathan M and the students presented these awards at our assembly this week.

CRC NewsThis week we are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students. Rick Iopu, a year 12 student ,passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Rick , although dealing with illness, always had such a presence at Cayleys with his caring, respectful and compassionate nature. He was a friend to many

and an admired by all. Rick loved working with Danny in woodwork, with Cheryl in Cayleys Creations and always loved making music with Ben. We will miss you Rick, but leave us with so many memories. Our deepest sympathies go to Rick’s family. Monica CooperAssisatant Principal

NATIONAL DISABILITY INSURANCE SCHEME INFORMATION FOR FAMILIES OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES WESTERN MELBOURNE AREA

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new, national approach providing individualised support and services for people with disability. The NDIS is administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

The NDIS commenced operation in some parts of the State on 1 July 2016 and will rollout progressively across the remainder of the State, Area by Area, until it is fully operational on 1 July 2019. Key information for Western Melbourne is as follows:

Area start date Local government areas Local Area Coordinator

1 October 2018 Hobsons Bay, Maribrynong, Melbourne, Moonee Valley, Wyndham

Brotherhood of St Laurence

Participants will transition to the NDIS based on where they live, not where they attend school.

Eligibility is focused on lifelong, functional impairment. NDIS eligibility information is available on the NDIS Access Checklist which is on the NDIS website.

There are two possible pathways for students with a disability to access the NDIS:

1. Students who are receiving specified disability programs or supports will have their details automatically provided to the NDIA. Your school will be able to advise you if your child is receiving one of these supports. These students may be contacted by the NDIA up to six months prior to their Area’s start date and invited to test their eligibility for the scheme.

2. Students who do not receive any of the specified programs or supports can directly contact either the NDIA or the NDIA Local Area Coordinator to test their eligibility. This can commence up to six months prior to their Area’s rollout date.

Further information Contact your NDIA Local Area Coordinator or the NDIA for information about the NDIS. Your school has also been provided with general information about the NDIS and what it means for students with disabilities.

Camp Medication: I review and organise all camp medication. For this reason I need all Medication Authority Forms (Green Camp Forms) to be returned as soon as possible once camp paperwork has been distributed. I request that all medication be handed into me directly via reception at least 2-3 days before camp. I encourage you to obtain extra medication close to camp and provide me the original packaging. If your child has a lot of medication please request a webster pack from your pharmacist.

Medication: As per school policy we ask parents to commence all new medication over the weekend or holidays. So this can be closely monitored for any possible allergic reactions or side effects. We appreciate your cooperation regarding this. If you have any questions regarding medication or need your child to take medication at school please contact me.

Please note: • All medication needs to be in the original packaging with child’s name, dose and time on the box. • If medication is being transported in students bags please contact the school as soon as possible, so we can remove the medication. Chaperones can secure school bags whilst on the bus but must not be used as a courier. • If at all possible directly handing over the medication at reception or myself would be appreciated. Nurse Nicole
