Early Years Learning Centre Early Years have had a busy and exciting start to the term beginning their STEAM inquiry. Early Years PLT 1’s question is “How can we play?” and students have been reading the story “ Titch” and recreating the story by making drums, pinwheels, planting seeds and flying kites. Students have been selecting their favourite activity from the story and redoing it at the end of the week. In maths students have been revising their knowledge of counting and numbers. Early Years PLT 2 question is “How can we play and perform?” Students are learning about performing and being active listeners. Students have been exploring how they can move when music is played and using images to talk about the stories they are reading. In maths students are focusing on number and place value. Early Years PLT 3 question is “How can I create it?” Students have been viewing the “Dust Bunnies” clip on Youtube and learning to be active readers through re-enacting the text. In maths students are revising their number and counting skills. Swimming for the Early Years will be in week 4. Any parents or carers who are available it would be great to see you there! You must, however, have a Working With Children’s Check. Thank you all staff and students for a great start to the term! paint. Our reading focus has been on expressing and developing ideas and we read a book called Duck Rabbit and completed an activity about which of the characters we could see within the visual illusion. Maths has been all about numbers and place value. Our teaching staff have been busy working on final assessments preparing for report writing time which is coming up fast. We are really looking forward to swimming in 2 weeks, remember to bring back the permission forms please!

Middle Years Team Leader Thank you to all of the Middle Years staff, students and parents who have started Term 4 with a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Term 4 is a very busy term with many additional activities and transition plans taking place. We will always endeavour to provide as much notice as possible for any alterations to the usual schedule so you can prepare your child for any changes.

Next week will be the final Middle Years swimming program for 2016. Please ensure that your child’s permission note has been returned to the classroom teacher for the first day of swimming next Monday. If your child wears nappies it is essential that they have a supply of swimming nappies whilst in the pool. If you have any issues or questions regarding the swimming program please speak to your child’s teacher.

Just a reminder that we are a Sunsmart school and that all students and staff are required to wear hats when outside. Please ensure that your child comes to school with a broad-brimmed or legionnaires style hat with their name clearly marked on it. As the warmer weather approaches it is important that students stay hydrated throughout the day. We encourage students to bring a water bottle that also has their name clearly marked on it. Soft drinks and juices will not hydrate children like water can. Please encourage your child to be drinking water at school. The Middle Years team look forward to partnering with you and your child throughout Term 4. Alison Balchan, Middle Years Team Leader

Groups 20, 39, 40, 41 & 42 It has been a great start to our new term. The students have come back very refreshed and keen to learn after the holidays. Our focus in the first week has been commencing our new unit on "How can we care for our bodies?" To get students thinking about this we explored what foods are healthy and unhealthy and the differences between fruit and vegetables. We also began to look at other things we can do to be healthy such as drinking water, getting enough sleep and exercising. Our learning was tied into literacy activities around a great interactive e-book called "Feed 'Em Fred" in which a young boy learns to like to eat healthy food after being cooked for by a chef who makes grotesque food such as roasted snake with artichokes in sheep blood! Language experience activities where we made our own grouse looking but tasty food and then described how it looked and

tasted helped us to build our literacy skills. In numeracy we have been exploring time by ordering events and learning about duration. We did this by ordering events in our timetable and determining what events take a small amount of time such as brushing teeth and those that take a big amount of time such as swimming class.

Next week we will be swimming, which we are very much all looking forward to. Pamela, Andrew, Sonja, Anna, and Kerstin (Teachers) Emily, Sue, Kerryn, Carmen, Amy, and Mel (Support Staff)

Groups 10, 11, 18 & 19 Welcome back for Term 4 of what has been a fantastic year so far in MYPLT1! This term will see us answer the Inquiry Question “How Can We Care For Our Bodies?” Students have been hard at work already this term looking at healthy things to eat including lots of fruits and vegetables. Students had great fun making fruit kebabs last week and look forward to continuing to make a lot of fun, healthy foods for the rest of the term. Along with eating we will cover drinking, sleeping, exercising and washing to fill out the remainder of the term. In numeracy we have been looking at data collection and making graphs, basing it around fruits that people like, we even visited other rooms to survey them on their favourite fruits! We have continued to look at graphs this week and it has seen some very engaging sessions taking place. Literacy has seen the books “Piranhas Don’t Eat Bananas” and “Monsters Don’t Eat Broccoli” as we look to make connections between our books and ourselves (Brian eats bananas, and we eat bananas too!). Making connections will continue as a major focus through the beginning of the term Don’t forget that swimming is

taking place next week so make sure all bathers, towels and spare clothes are packed

in a separate bag ready to

take down to the pool. Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the Term

ahead!!

Later Years Warringa Campus Welcome back to term 4 for all in the Later Years team. Things kicked off with a bang as normal and the students have already been hard at work. Amy’s class have been busy looking at sharing in Maths and how things can be shared equally between two groups. There has also been lots of fun activities taking place, including making doughnuts, just like Mr Panda. Students also began a new round of electives this term. Manny is running a gardening elective and the students are looking at whether seeds need soil to grow or not. They have started to grow seeds on cotton wool and sponges and we are all excited to see what happens. Sean is doing a bike ed elective and the students have been peddling quickly around the school learning how to ride their bikes safely. Katie’s classroom has been full of funky dance moves as the Year 10 students get ready for their formal at the end of the term. They have started practicing a dance that will take place on the night. Watch this space – it will be fantastic!!!

Our chickens have also been hard at work laying a whooper of an egg. The

Cayleys Road News Welcome back to term 4 everybody. We are now on the final sprint with all our Year 12 students and parents preparing for life beyond school. It is great to see a variety of options our students are choosing and how services are now embracing innovative trial days and transitions. Thank you to all the staff who are busy collating evidence and information to add to the student transition profiles. This is a critical element to Transition beyond school. Transitions for students to Cayleys Road Campus for 2017 are in progress and will continue over the next month or so. Parents will then be invited to our Information night. Please look out for a flyer coming home in the next few weeks. Monica Cooper, Cayleys Road Team Leader

Rail Experience Week Once again we have two students participating in Rail Experience week at Rail Skills Vic Newport. 16 Students from Secondary Schools across the West have been given this opportunity. Today Thomas and Steph attended train and track awareness and heard about the new rail projects for Victoria. They will also be participating in White Card Training- the OHS standard for the construction industry. A highlight of the week will be a turn in the VLine Driver Training Simulator. From Kerry Roberts (VCAL Work Experience Co-ordinator) Student Reports On Wednesday I started doing nursing home with Wendy and Evangeline. I worked in the laundry with two ladies. They were nice they showed me how to fold towels and bed sheets in different ways. We did a lot of folding. It was really fun it was my first time going to nursing home. We stopped for a break for early morning tea. After morning tea we went back to work and we hang up some clothes to put in the order before I gave the clothes to the girl so she can put in the right order. From Cathy On Tuesday last week when we went to table tennis, Simon asked me if I would like a job. It would be telling people where to park and showing them where to go. It would be paid work. I am looking forward to working there. He said

that he needs to let his manager know and then they would try to get me to meet up with the manager. I am looking forward to having an experience at getting actual paid work. He said he would let me know of the details. From Joshua On Friday I went to Warringa Park main campus to talk about the VCAL program for the school review. I really enjoyed it I was sat with a Principal from another school and two students from the Bethany Road campus and four students from VCAL. We spoke about what we liked and what we could do to make the school better and our own two suggestions for making the VCAL better. I spoke about how I have better program opportunities than in the UK, and the support the teachers give me. My two suggestion are to get rid of the uniform for free dress because it helps us learn to dress appropriately for different situation. My other suggestion was to have laptops instead of iPads because they are easier to use and have bigger screens. I liked being part of the review because I liked having a voice to help make the school better. By Jarrod In the second semester of this year I did a program called radio it is a program that VCAL students do on Monday. The group meets up at Melbourne Central then we go to the radio classroom to write up our scripts then you go to then underground radio station called SYN. We all had individual times on our spreadsheet for when we went on air you could talk about anything you wanted as long as it's appropriate. The things I have talked about are Pokèmon go, my holidays and my visit to Minotaur the pop culture shop. After the group finished we went back to Melbourne Central for lunch and then we came back to school. By Perry Thursday automotive: Me and a few other students were learning about how dangerous driving is and how many people are safe drivers and dangerous drivers. Learners are the safest drivers because they have someone in the car with them at all times but when you get you're red P's that's when it get dangerous and most red P's have a higher crashing rating on the road than all of the green P's and fully licensed drivers. Then after learning all of that one of the teachers put us on a driving simulator. In the future I hope I get my driver’s license. Bradley

Welcome to Seesaw! We hope that you are enjoying seeing your child’s learning as it happens via the Seesaw Digital Learning Jour-nal. Seesaw is being used to capture and share your child’s learning as it is happening in the classroom. Staff and students at Warringa Park School have been a using an online learning journal called ‘Seesaw’.

Using Seesaw, teachers and students upload work, videos and photos onto as they are happening Real time in the classroom. Each post becomes a part of a ‘class feed’ that is visible to students within the class. Parents & Carer’s with the Seesaw app, will see a daily feed of their child’s learning as it is happening in the classroom. Teachers, parents, carer's and students can comment on the work, providing instantaneous and relevant feedback to the student on their learning. Work that is posted on Seesaw will collate in digital folders and will become a ‘live’ ePortfolio that showcases your child’s learning. Seesaw is available via the web or can be downloaded as an app for your iPad, iPhone or Android device. You will need an email address to set the app/account up. Your child’s work via photos, videos and work samples will be stored securely via the Seesaw Content Distribution Network. This is the same technology as companies such as Google, Amazon, Facebook and Microsoft use to securely provide content to you. If you have not already provided this, we require your permission for your child’s photo, school-work and name to be recorded within Seesaw. Please contact your child’s teacher if you require a new permission form. In Term 4, your child’s ePortfolio will be located within the Seesaw app. You will notice that your child’s work is stored under sub-ject folders. This term your child’s Seesaw profile will have a folder titled ‘ePortfolio.’ Within this folder, your child’s teachers will select the Seesaw posts that best demonstrate your child’s learning against their Individual Learning Goals. We are very excited to be able to share your child’s learning with you in such a timely and accessible way! Best Regards eLearning Team

Changes to Bus Routes in Term 4 2016 As you are aware, the school was notified on Wednesday 14th September 2016 that the Department of Education and Training has reallocated two buses (Stripy Bacchus Marsh and Checkers Wheel Chair) to other schools due to under capacity on some of our buses. This required a major reorganisation of the bus routes and a change in the pickup and drop off times for many students. We worked with DET and the bus companies to reroute as quickly as possible. I want to thank you all for your patience in this process. There is still some refining to do so I ask for your continued patience in getting this system right. Again, I apologise for the inconvenience and assure you we are doing our best to ensure that there is the least amount of disruption. Yours sincerely, Marie Hayes, Principal, Warringa Park School
