How many roots?I am a Banyan tree, and I have aerial roots. Sometimes they reach the soil, thereby supporting me. I am the national tree of India. You might have seen women tying red threads around me. They do so to pray for the long life of their husbands. Can you count the number of aerial roots that I have in this picture?
Find my way upI am the root of this plant. As you know, we roots send water and nutrients to other parts of the plant and some of us are edible too like sweet potato. However, I want to send some water to the leaf at the top, but I cannot fi nd the way. Can you help me out? Once you are done, unscramble the letters below and fi nd out the names of some of your favourite roots.

StemsThe stem of a plant, which is also known as its axis, is the main support of a plant. It is divided into nodes and internodes. Nodes hold the leaves, fl owers, or other stems, while the space between two nodes is called the internode.
Time to trace! We store nutrients, and we also help transport food and water to all other parts of the plant. This food is prepared by leaves and water is stored in the roots. Trace our way to fi nd out which root is passing water to which fruit.
Count us outSome roots and the fruits of a plant are eaten. But did you know that some stems can be eaten too? We are Asparagus stems and we are edible! Count how many of us are there in the picture.
Number of Asparagus stems =
Root A

Root B Root C
LeavesLeaves are the kitchen of a plant. They prepare food and send it to different parts of the plant through the stems. That’s why leaves are also known as the powerhouse of a plant.
Match me if you canWe leaves come in many shapes and sizes. Some of us are fl at and wide, whereas others are spiky and thin. Did you know that some plant spines, such as those of cactus, are also leaves? Such leaves are called modifi ed leaves. Now that you know about our shapes and sizes, can you pair up the same leaves on the right? One example has been done for you.
