• Two students from each year attended School Council chaired by the Deputy Head and attended by the Chair of Governors.

• This was the idea we were going to start with and develop.

• 17th July 2008 Sally-Ann came to school and led 20 students through a day of training.

• We have brought some of our thoughts to show you.

• We used the “wheel” to help us decide where we are and where we want to go.

• The Chair of Governors came to see how we were doing and joined in with our discussions

• We had biscuits, sweets and lunch provided out of the £1000 budget that has been given to us.

• A small group of students met to put the final touches to the structure and to decide how to manage and lead the new groups.

Community Groups

• These are the groups that will set about planning for change.

• These are the groups who will monitor what is happening in school.

• These are the groups to speak out on behalf of the students.

• These are the groups who will make things happen.

Youth Forum

• Three year 11 students have become involved locally.

• They aim to find out what local youngsters want and work with Eastbourne Borough Council to try and provide out of school activities.

Young Pioneers

• 10 students from all years have put themselves forward to work as Young Pioneers.

• This involves having a say in what services are available to children in East Sussex.

Rotary Leadership

• Two students went for a weekend sponsored by The Rotary to develop their leadership skills.

• These are all examples of the snowball effect following on from the Learner Voice training.

Where are we now?

• Lots of students involved in leadership, training and having a say in what goes on for young people.

• Notice boards to communicate and lots of plans to improve communication for young people.

• Restructured system.

• Less reliance on teachers.
