NORTH CAROLINA A & T STATE UNIVERSITY
EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM (ELDP)
PROPOSED PROGRAM CURRICULUM DESIGN & STRUCTURE
Fall 2015
Program Description
NCAT’s Leadership Development Program , “Leading at A&T” builds transferrable
skills, knowledge and capability that leaders need to succeed.
Participant Learning Outcomes
The ELDP experience will enable participants to:
Communicate and achieve alignment with the University strategic direction, as well
as build commitment to bridge the gap between senior management and the front
line.

ELDP – Fall 2015
Participant Learning Outcomes (Cont.)
The ELDP experience will enable participants to:
Solve complicated problems and engage in effective decision making amidst the
changing higher education landscape.
Increase organizational awareness, create buy-in and lead through collaboration.
Learning Strategy
The ELDP experience will employ a number of learning strategies including lecture-
discussion, guest lectures, case studies, group projects, participant presentations, etc.
A 360 comprehensive assessment will be administered that: aids in the identification
of leadership skills, behaviors and preferences; as well as establish a foundation for
personal and professional growth.
Sessions and case studies will be led by Subject Matter Experts (SME) who will
create a challenging environment for learning, practice, reflection and strategic goal
alignment with our University priorities.
Targeted participation in Professional Conferences (e.g. AAUP, SHRM, etc.)
Participation on a project team will be sponsored by senior administration on key
university initiatives.
Evaluation of the leadership experience and project results will be presented at
program end.

ELDP – Fall 2015
Learning Strategy (Cont.)
The learning experience will be reinforced by the infusion of
Coaching/Mentoring, Shadowing and Stretch Assignments.
“Fireside Chats” with our Chancellor as well as other UNC-GA, State and
National leaders. These sessions allow the guest speaker to provide their
perspective on leadership which in turn creates inspiration, empowerment,
and influence among the ELDP participants.
Course Materials and Resources
Required Texts – Each learning module will include one or more required texts—
complex texts that participants work with in class that offer them new language, new
knowledge, and new modes of thought.
Supplemental Readings – These will be in the form of PDFs posted in Blackboard.
Blackboard – Although this is not a distance learning experience, Blackboard is used
as both a communication forum and learning tool.
Recommended Readings – Participants will also need a “volume of reading,” and
therefore will be provided a recommended reading list to enlarge their world and
increase their leadership vocabulary.
