LEADERS’ NEWS Sports Day is the topic of conversation in the yard. In true EPS spirit, we are doing our best to work within current guidelines around extra adults on site and balancing space/capacity with the formula we have been given. Recent communication explained the process of booking in using TryBooking. We recognise that this is a favourite event for parents and extended families but unfortunately with the number of students and staff as well as the space we have available as a parent viewing area we are restricted to 80 spectators per session. As written, to be equitable to all families we can only have one parent per family with no toddlers. I am sure there will be some families who miss out and I am deeply sorry. We have had to make the tough decision but decided it was better than no spectators on the day which is what we did last year. Teachers are mindful of this and will do everything they can to post on Seesaw. To ensure we comply with the regulations we will be asking all adults who are on school grounds to leave after drop off and will open the western Edwards St gate at 9am to enable the 80 spectators to check in and move to the viewing area. At the conclusion of the Junior primary events we will ask everyone to leave, and will open the gate again for the 80 spectators who are booked in for the Primary event. This gate will be marshalled and staff will check you in. During the event all other gates will be closed to ensure we follow our COVID management Plan. I’m sure there will be questions, so please do not hesitate to contact the front office or me. The students are excited to participate in Sports Day and the staff have worked hard to make this a fantastic event. Thank you for supporting the children and staff in this difficult time, I really appreciate it. Results from our Parent Opinion survey have just arrived and we will unpack them over the holiday break. At first look we had over 190 responses with many positive and supporting results. If you have any comments or questions related to this survey, or the school in general, please don’t hesitate to contact me. All feedback is an opportunity to make improvements. A group of our Year 5/6/7 students participated in the Festival of Music at the Entertainment Centre. The night was a spectacular success. Well done to those students involved. PRIMARY SCHOOL

Week 9 – THURSDAY, 16th September 2021

Our Pupil Free Day was dedicated to working on the school Site Improvement Plan Goals. This involved focusing on success criteria and learning intentions to improve student outcomes and achievement. As a school we worked in year level teams with Helena Lambrinos to develop our Inquiry Focus for Term 4 and fine tune our school-wide scope and sequence with a sub focus on higher order questioning. SAVE THE DATE: Another major event that the staff have been working towards is the creation of Eddie’s Market. This is to fill the place of the Strawberry Fair which we are unable to hold this year. Eddie’s Market will be a twilight event on 5th November. Each class will have a stall and parents will be able to book in to attend a session. More information will come out from the committee and class teachers. Our Year 1 Phonics results have been collated and we have once again made amazing growth with 96% of our students achieving the standard which is up from 89% in 2019 and 2020. This result is the highest in our Partnership and I expect in the top range across the state. NAPLAN results have come out and we expect the full data to be available by the end of the term. EPS has been commended on our results and the consistency of growth we have continued to make across the years. The students’ individual results will be sent home to families by the end of this term.

FESTIVAL CHOIR NEWS

On Tuesday the 7th of September, Edwardstown Choir students travelled to the Entertainment Centre to rehearse and then perform at the Festival of Music. This year the commissioned work focused on the importance of water in our lives. Collaborating with many other schools was very exciting and together, with our students in Troupe and the Orchestra, we made our families very proud. Thank you to our parent helpers also. Your support with the rehearsal and dinner was much appreciated. Larissa Maher and Laura Potts

LOST PROPERTY

Please come and check lost property, lots of good quality clothes including swimming items. These will be cleared out at the end of the term. Thank you

SAPSASA BASKETBALL

YR 6/7 GIRLS STATEWIDE BASKETBALL FINALS

On Wednesday the 15th of September our Year 6/7 girls basketball team travelled to St Clair Recreation centre to

play in the finals of the knockout basketball competition. The team won their first carnival earlier this term.

The first matches of the day the girls came up against Cabra College, Tatachilla Lutheran College and Golden Grove.

The girls played excellent basketball against all these opponents and won every match apart from the Cabra game.

The girls only lost by 1 point to Cabra and unfortunately this meant they did not make the semi-final.

This did not mean the day was over and Edwardstown next came up against Encounter College. Once again, the girls

played some good basketball and worked well as a team to finish winners and moved into their final match with lots

of confidence.

The final match was played against Eastern Fleurieu Primary School. This match was a playoff for 5th place. Again,

the girls worked hard in the game to play defence and offence and support each other all over the court. This paid

off as they won the final game comfortably and meant Edwardstown Primary School finished the 5th best team in

the state-wide school’s basketball competition. A huge achievement for the team and their coach Jo Laird.

This result is the best result for a team from Edwardstown Primary School in this competition. Congratulations to all

the girls for this achievement, you should all hold you heads high and be very proud of yourselves. Thankyou to Jo

Laird for your time and effort you have put into the girls and helping them in this competition. Without this we can’t

give our students this opportunity.

PRIMARY MATHS EXTENTION GROUP

Three EPS students took part in the Primary Maths Extension Group (PMEG) Program for Yr 5, 6 & 7 run by the Australian Science and Mathematics School (ASMS). The PMEG Program was a short course involving inquiry based learning, participants were guided by ASMS staff and students in discussions on ‘How do we make the right decisions for humankind?’ and ‘How can we make predictions about the planet and the future?’. The participants learnt how maths can be used to explore and solve environmental issues, and how to

design a poster that conveys a mathematical concept. Each student created a poster to present at the Australian Science and Mathematics School International Science Fair Expo on the 2nd Sept. The students needed to design their own mathematical inquiry question in relation to the theme ‘What can mathematics do for your world?’. Each student's inquiry poster needed to include what their inquiry question was, how they undertook the investigation, the method they used and results they found. The students presented their posters at the Expo to other PMEG participants and ASMS teachers and students. There were some really interesting and wide ranging topics, each poster demonstrating how maths is used to help investigate and solve problems. https://asms.sa.edu.au/pmeg/

WALKING SCHOOL BUS

Congratulations to Grace and Owen, who have walked to school for 10 walks. They will receive a voucher at assembly which entitles them to a free ice block from the office any lunch time. Thank you, and have fun walking to school! Congratulations to Dylan K for being our Term 3 Walking School Bus raffle draw winner. Dylan has been a regular walker and his name was pulled in a draw, and he now has a voucher to spend at Big W.

Well done, Dylan!

WINTER SPORT Ne

SOCCER WRAP UP

The 2021 soccer season is now finished with medal

presentations and parents v kids games planned for 18th

September.

We had five teams this year – Under 8s, Under 9s, Under 10s,

Under 11s and seniors. All five teams played exceptionally well,

with many new skills learnt and a lot of team improvement

from the start of the year.

Thank you to all our coaches – Martin, Carl, Ellen, Alex and

Roly. Without your support we wouldn’t be able to play! I

know the kids say thank you too, to all the parent volunteer

support, management, coordination, communication, lines duties and everything else – there’s too many to

mention everyone.

A very special thank you to our referees. Being a referee can be a difficult job and we were fortunate to

have Daniel, Josh, Kobbi, Liam and Charlie help us out for all our home games. Cheers, Steph
