LEADERSNEWS I am pleased to announce we have an Assistant Principal starting at EPS in Term 2. Shane Atkins has won the position for 5 years, with a focus on Curriculum and Pedagogy. This position was originally a Coordinator role, and as the school has grown to almost 450, a higher level leadership role was advertised. Shane has been in a coordinator role at Glen Osmond Primary for 4 years, and brings new ideas and expertise to our school. He will teach In Room 16 on Mondays and Science in a number of classes across R-7. Shane's office will be upstairs opposite Room 9 and will provide extra support to our staff and students, so call past and help him feel welcome. Sports Day was a very successful day, and I was impressed with the positive and enthusiastic participation of all students. I love hearing the encouragement given to everyone for doing their best, and although it was a close finish all students enjoyed the day. Thanks go to Sue Boggiano for her smooth organisation, Jim Goudie for making the grounds look fantastic, Simone and the many parents and school friends who donated goods and worked in the Canteen, and the fundraising team for the mega Easter raffle. The Canteen took over $1400 on the day and the raffle raised $1842 for the school. The annual Year 7 v Teachers and Parents was a closely run race, with the very competitive adults just pipping the students at the post! Well done Koalas for winning the shield. We have had a world first event at school this week with the Virtual Reality incursion. I'm sure your children have explained the surreal opportunity we were offered, and stories of whales swimming past, planets aligning and strategy games and devices exploding are a few of the first hand experiences. Education Minister Susan Close called in to be part of the inaugural event, and we were able to subsidise the cost with the specialist schools grant the state government provided. NAPLAN testing takes place in Week 2 of Term 2 for all Year 3,5 and 7 students. The tests run over 4 days and give teachers and parents an indication of students' strengths and growth areas in Literacy (Reading, Formalities and Writing) and Numeracy. If you have concerns regarding your child sitting the tests please talk to your child's teacher or see Vicky or myself. We won't be having an Assembly this Thursday as the hall isn't available, so I would like to farewell the Rudd and Al Arnaout families who are moving. We will miss you and wish you well. I hope all families get to spend time together and have a happy and well deserved holiday. Staff are completing First Aid Training and Digitech Professional development on Monday, May 1 and students return to school on Tuesday, May 2. School Council asked that I acknowledge EPS staff for their commitment to camps this term on a completely voluntary basis, the time spent on training and development for 2 days in Melbourne, and the many hours teachers have devoted to student led parent interviews.

GENIUS HOUR EXPO

Just wanted to say a big thankyou to everyone who came to Room 1's Genius Hour Expo this afternoon! We had so many parents and classes come through, and the students loved showing their projects and answering questions about them after working so hard all term. I have taken lots of photos and will endeavour to send more individual photos out to parents tomorrow, but here are a few overall photos. Kind regards, Caroline Fitzgerald
