September 2017 Le respect, la responsabilité et la fierté Principals message Welcome back to École Harrison! This is our eighth year as Brandons Single Track French Immersion school. What an amazing time of yearseeing all of our students and how they have grown over the summer is a real treat. We are looking forward to an amazing year! Welcome to our new Kindergarten families! We are blessed with a very talented teaching and support staff. We welcome Tracy Gamache as our new Home School Liaison (phone number 204-729-3206), Moustapha Sidina as a French language monitor, and Hannah Price as our Kindergarten EA. We are busy filling additional EA positions and looking for a guidance counselor after Mme McCannell retired. This is an exciting year for us as we undertake a new Continuous Improvement Plan in Brandon School Di- vision. Come and see what our ultimate outcomes are for BSD and what our BSD students told us about how they want to learn. This information is at www.bsd.ca or you can also see the new bulletin board in our front foyer. Our primary goal area is about Responding to Diversity and it is impressive that all adults in BSD are focusing on having a collective sense of responsibility for the learning of ALL students. Thank you so much to the members of our Parent Council and family members/volunteers for the installa- tion of new playground equipment and outdoor classroom materials. We thank Jody Carkener as our teacher leader of this project and we think the new additions look great! As you know, we are committed to providing the most authentic French Immersion experience possible for our students. We have high expectations for our students when it comes to their behaviour and use of the French language. We hope that you will continue to provide your support of these high expectations to help our students show respect, responsibility and pride (Le respect, la responsabilité et la fierté) in their strengths as French Immersion learners. We are still seeking help through Lunchroom Assistant positions at our school. If this is something that interests you, could you please come and see me. The supervision of our children is of great importance and these are paid positions through the Brandon School Division. If you are interested in volunteering some time in this way, we would love that too! Your help at noon hour would be greatly appreciated!!! I really look forward to seeing our parents at our Parent Council which is focused on learning and having fun. It is a very welcoming group of parents who are committed to making our school the best it can be for our children. Our first meet and greet is from 6:00 to 6:30 on Monday September 25 th and our first regular meeting is in October. Please come and join us to meet one another...Childcare is provided!!! A reminder that we will try to be sending all school-based communication home on Thursdays. There are times when urgent information must be sent home at the end of a different day, but we will try to communicate on Thursdays as much as possible. Also, I have made it a personal priority to keep fees and fundraising to a minimum this year. We have many wonderful learning activities that we can certainly afford within our budget and I strongly believe that this can be done reasonably for our families who are involved in so much after school hours. Have a great year everyone! Craig Laluk, Principal As your new home school liaison please assist me by: Letting me know when your child is ill or will be away. I can be reached at 204-729-3206. If you are calling after school hours, please leave a message with the reason for the absence. Informing the office if you are taking your child out of the school during the lunch hour. This will alleviate any worries for the lunch monitors. As in the past, students in Grades 7 & 8 require prior written permission to leave the school during lunch. Mme Gamache
