Principal’s message
Welcome back to all of our École Harrison families! Our Welcome to Kindergarten for our new Kindergarten students is on April 19th…we’re really looking forward to meeting our incoming students and having them meet Mme Maynard as their teacher for next year. We are placing much more emphasis on the development of social skills at the Early Years level and our message will have a lot to do with what families can do at home to help prepare their young ones for school! If you’re interested in learning more, please come by and I can show you some of the work that our staff has done towards this! PLEASE NOTE: We would like to remind our families to please be very careful when dropping off or picking up your children at the school. It is very important to respect the signage and to use the crosswalks to cross Queens Avenue. We have also received a couple of com-plaints from neighbours that we are driving too fast near the school! We care about our students so please try to slow down! N.B. A reminder that we are not accepting teacher requests for 2018-2019. We are very confident in the staff that we have and we will try to achieve balance within classrooms so that all needs are being met. This worked well for us the last three years. The children will be asked to name some friendships that we could consider maintaining into next school year. If you feel that there are any other considerations that we should make, then please communicate that via e-mail to myself at [email protected] prior to April 27th. We will be having a Meet the Teacher for next year’s classes in June like we have done for the past two years. Thank to you all of our families for attending Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences in the month of March to review the students’ ac-complishments and to focus on new goals for the remaining months of the school year. We are blessed to have such amazing parental support with a focus on learning. We have finalized our instructional plan for 2018-2019...take a look at how it looks below. We look forward to seeing you all at our next Parent Council meeting on April 16th! A reminder that Child Care is provided.

Brandon Festival of the Arts: Congratulations to all of our participants in the Brandon Festival of the Arts. We are honoured to have received the following awards: Nouvelles Voix: *Huntley and Dilys Davies Cameron Memorial Scholarship (best performance by an early years school choir)
*Lillian Popkin Memorial Trophy (most enjoyable performance by an elementary school choir)
Chorale Avancée: *Betty Gibson Memorial Scholarship (best performance by a middle years school choir)
ÉCHO: *Cordell Grant Memorial Scholarship (an outstanding performance by a school or community choir)

Music Monday: Our Chorale members will be participating in the fourth annual Brandon-Wide Music Monday concert on May

of all ages, they will be premiering a newly commissioned work by Kenley Kristofferson. This is a free public concert to celebrate
music and music education in our country, and all are welcome to attend.

Club de course/Running Club:
We are thrilled with the number of students who signed up to participate in running club this year. In order to ensure appropriate supervision and for the safety of the participants we have divided running club into the following two age groups; grades 4-5 and grades 6-8. This may not be ideal for families who have children in both age groups, therefore those students have the option to run with either the older or the younger group. Grades 4-5 students will practice on Monday during lunch hour and Wednesday after school. Grades 6-8 students will practice on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. A calendar with specific times as well as waiver forms were sent home with the stu-dents on April 6th. Races will be on Wednesday May 9th (rain out Thursday May 10th) and Wednesday May 16th (rain out Thursday May 17th). Letters with specifics regarding race times and locations will be sent home in May. Éducation physique Grade 7-8 badminton season has begun. Practices will be held at lunch and students will play 3-4 games after school from 3:45-5:15. Schedule to be completed. The jamboree will be held Thursday May 3rd from 12:45-3:30. The school track meet is scheduled for Tuesday May 22nd for grades 4-8. The City Track and Field meets (grade 4-6 and 7-8) are scheduled for June 13th (grades 4-6) and June 15th (grades 7-8). More information will be sent home as the event ap-proaches. M. Perreaux
École Harrison students and staff will be celebrating “J’aime Lire”/ “I Love to Read” the week of April 23-27, 2018. The
theme this year is “Dr. Seuss”. Students and staff are encouraged to dress up each day based on his books. A book exchange
will take place on Thursday, April 26th. Please read further in the newsletter for more details on both of these activities! The “J’aime Lire” Committee
