Developing an argumentative thesis statement

Developing an argument in support of your topic is not easy and it takes time and effort.

A good thesis statement grows from an interesting topic with valid arguments for and against.

You cannot argue a question. Ex: Should children be abused?

It is not wise to argue facts that are agreed.

Ex: Children should not be abused.

It is not possible to argue opinions without facts .

Ex: Children are only abused by uneducated parents.

a sense of unity and belonging. (indicating categories or reasons)

CAN I MODIFY /CHANGE MY THESIS STATEMENT?

SURE. As your research progresses and develops so does the statement. Most researchers begin with a Working Thesis Statement. It's helpful to have a thesis statement at the beginning of your research project, as this can be the focus of your ideas and information for the whole paper.

You will refer to the thesis statement many times throughout your paper. Keep referring back to your thesis statement whenever you find information that may be of use to you and ask question.

The final thesis statement must be a good, well-structured and clear sentence. It will be the hardest sentence you write but it is well worth the effort.
