August 5, 2010 LBI is a manufacturing company located in Buffalo Wyoming that provides products for toxic substance remediation and clean up to consumers, government and industry. Our product line includes DualZorb, PondZorb and AcidZorb; each designed and formulated for a specific application. Because all of our products are made from standing dead lodge pole pine trees the entire product life cycle “cradle to grave” has no negative impact on the environment and in many cases our products can be returned to the earth after use as a safe and biodegradable substance. DualZorb is a fast acting petroleum absorbing product that removes water from oil, acts as a fire suppressant, kills odors on contact, and has the capability to encapsulate harmful poisons and heavy metals. DualZorb’s main application is for ground based spills and contamination. PondZorb is designed to remove petroleum based hydrocarbons from the surface of water. PondZorb quickly coagulates and encapsulates oil allowing it to be removed from the water. PondZorb is an EPA approved “sorbent” and meets all of the Code of Federal Regulations requirements for mitigation of oil on water. AcidZorb is a green alternative offered for the cleanup of acid spills. This product is based on the same patented wood fiber product as our other two products and eliminates the need for harsh chemical acid neutralizers and solidifiers. Our customer base includes a wide cross section of industry, military and consumers including; Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, Decker Coal Mining Company, Wyoming National Guard (Cheyenne), Pamida stores and many others. We are constantly expanding our customer base as new and unique applications for the product are discovered. Our mission is to provide customers with effective, economical and environmentally friendly products that offer a solution to the remediation of toxic substances especially oil. Our goal is to provide a quality product all the while keeping customer service at the forefront. Best Regards,

Through extensive research LBI has developed a 100% natural, environmentally responsible, sorbent – DualZorb. This renewable product made from beetle killed pine trees can be utilized in various applications including, but not limited to, hard surface and ground spills as well as soil contamination. This low-dust product quickly encapsulates spills, instantly begins bioremediation of petroleum hydrocarbons, and is 100% biodegradable. This special feature of DualZorb raises the standards for spill absorbents. DualZorb quickly absorbs most liquids, heavy metals, and salts. The speed of absorption is due to the unique characteristics of the raw material, particle size, and LBI’s innovative hydration process. Spills are absorbed into DualZorb through capillary movement, where contaminates are physically bonded to the cellulose structure of the wood fiber. This encapsulation creates a non-leaching material that is safe for disposal in most landfills. Another great characteristic of DualZorb is its ability to remediate petroleum hydrocarbons into harmless compounds. DualZorb contains naturally occurring chemicals and microbes; which play a part in both short term and long term remediation. The remediation begins immediately through multiple reactions of the natural chemicals in DualZorb, with the petroleum hydrocarbons. After these reactions, the remaining petroleum hydrocarbons are remediated through microbial activity. As an environmentally responsible sorbent, DualZorb is biodegradable. In certain applications it can be utilized as compost or left in-situ. The rate at which DualZorb biodegrades can vary significantly, this depends on the site conditions. DualZorb is packaged dehydrated for reduced costs and ease of handling. If there is not a distributor in your area, or you are interested in becoming a distributor, please contact the Corporate Office.

Pit Closure
DualZorb is your environmentally friendly solution to pit reclamation and remediation. DualZorb has been approved by the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission and the North Dakota Industrial Commission for the reclamation of discharge pits used during the construction of oil and gas wells. Other states will be added soon.
TYPICAL PIT (60’W X 160’L X 14’D)
Unlike fly ash, DualZorb not only captures oil and contaminates from the tailings, it will remediate the pit over time. DualZorb has also been shown to work in the most difficult pits where polymer fracturing and inverse drilling fluids cannot be removed from the pit. DualZorb will absorb these fluids and allow for pit remediation.

Land Farms
Land farming oil contaminated soil not only takes time, but can take up considerable space, require additional amendments and frequent maintenance. DualZorb can reduce the DRO concentration up to 80% in the first few hours and significantly accelerate the remediation process.
PIT REMEDIATION NEARING COMPLETION
Surface Releases
Just as with land farms, DualZorb can also be used as an in-situ treatment for petroleum hydrocarbon spill sites, providing quick remediation and minimizing the long term impact from a release. In addition to petroleum hydrocarbons, DualZorb has also demonstrated the ability to absorb metals and salts from soil.

Case Study #1 Crude Oil Contaminated Soil
Anadarko Petroleum Corporation - Midwest, WY
Anadarko Petroleum Corporation operates a crude oil production field near Midwest, WY. LBI provided DualZorb product to demonstrate and evaluate its remediation capabilities on land farmed crude oil contaminated soil. DualZorb hydration, mixing, sampling, and laboratory results were performed by Anadarko staff with guidance from LBI. Bench Test #1 Random contaminated soil grab samples were collected from four land farm locations, identified as LAC 5, LAC 10, West Compost, and East Compost. Each land farm location has varying levels of oil contamination and age of contamination. In the first series of tests, equal masses of contaminated soil were placed in mixing trays. DualZorb was then hydrated with tap water in a separate container. The DualZorb was allowed to hydrate for approximately two minutes before being thoroughly hand mixed with the contaminated soil. Contaminated soil was mixed with hydrated DualZorb at ratios of one to one and two parts DualZorb to one part contaminated soil. The test samples were kept hydrated with tap water for two days. The samples were then allowed to dry for one day. Representative grab samples were collected and submitted to Energy Laboratories (Gillette, WY) for analysis of diesel range organics (DRO) and total extractable hydrocarbons (EPA Method 8015B). The results are summarized below: 1:1 Mix Ratio 2:1 Mix Ratio
Location Untreated DRO Treated DRO % Reduction Treated DRO %Reduction
LAC 5 110,000 mg/Kg 34,900 mg/Kg 68.3% 14,800 mg/Kg 86.5%
LAC 10 8,360 mg/Kg 5,980 mg/Kg 28.5% 4,560 mg/Kg 45.5%
West Compost 11,300 mg/Kg 6,890 mg/Kg 39.0% 2,940 mg/Kg 74.0%
East Compost 8,550 mg/Kg 3,820 mg/Kg 55.3% 4,000 mg/Kg 53.2%
When evaluating the report data, it must be understood that EPA 8015B test methodology uses a solvent to extract hydrocarbons from the soil for analysis. Solvents will dissolve hydrocarbons upon contact. Therefore, the results provide an indication to the ability of DualZorb to retain absorbed petroleum hydrocarbons that would otherwise remain absorbed by DualZorb in the environment.
5
Results also indicate that product interaction with contaminated soil is critical. Visually, the product did not appear to have reached oil saturation during the tests. It may be inferred that some of the hydrocarbons extracted were from soil that did not receive complete mixing.
Bench Test #2 In the second series of tests, a new set of soil grab samples collected from the four land farm locations. The contact time between DualZorb and the contaminated soil was reduced to just two hours. The mix ratio was one pound DualZorb to one pound contaminated soil. Samples were collected and submitted to Energy Laboratories for analysis. The results are summarized below: 1:1 Mix Ratio
Location Untreated DRO Treated DRO % Reduction LAC 5 206,000 mg/Kg 63,800 mg/Kg 69.0%
LAC 10 25,100 mg/Kg 3,810 mg/Kg 84.8%
West Compost 11,800 mg/Kg 4,430 mg/Kg 62.4%
East Compost 8,490 mg/Kg 4,530 mg/Kg 46.6%
Comparing the percentage of DRO reduction between the two series of tests, see below, LAC 5 and East Compost showed consistent contaminate removal percentages. These results indicate that the absorption process occurs quickly and that additional contact time does not increase the amount of contamination removed from the soil. locations showed a considerable increase in the amount of DRO absorbed from the soil by DualZorb. The increased removal percentages may be due to changes in the chemical composition of the soil contamination. But as proper mixing is critical, the second series of test most likely had complete product mixing with the contaminated soil.

Case Study #2 Lead Contaminated Soil
Former Shooting Range - Fremont, NE
LBI was provided with a soil sample from a former shooting range that was undergoing site remediation. Residual lead pellets were removed from the soil and a soil sample was collected to represent a worst case scenario, soils near a target box. The base soil was analyzed for total lead and had a reported concentration of 13,400 mg/kg (EPA Method 6010, Preparation Method EPA 3050). Three equal mass test samples of the base soil were prepared, each weighing one pound. Next, three varying portions of dehydrated DualZorb were weighed. Test 1 contained equal amounts of DualZorb and contaminated soil. Test 2 contained two pounds of DualZorb to one pound of contaminated soil. Test 3 contained three pounds of DualZorb to one pound of contaminated soil. In each test, DualZorb was hydrated with tap water in a separate container. The DualZorb was allowed to hydrate for approximately two minutes before being mixed with the contaminated soil. After two minutes of mixing DualZorb with the contaminated soil, samples of the treated soil were sent out for laboratory analysis. In addition to the three test samples, a sample of the untreated soil was submitted to our testing laboratory, Inter-Mountain Laboratories in Sheridan, WY, for a Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) extraction and analysis. The results are summarized below:
Mixture Ratio TCLP Lead Concentration % Reduction
Base 48.2 mg/L -- Test 1 (1:1) 6.7 mg/L 86% Test 2 (1:2) 2.7 mg/L 94% Test 3 (1:3) 1.9 mg/L 96%
Data collected clearly shows that DualZorb is effective at removing lead contamination from soil. Experiments conducted since these tests indicate that if the hydration water was introduced to the soil and DualZorb mixture (soil washing), a greater lead removal level is expected. See Case Study #3 where the metals are in a liquid.

Case Study #3 Industrial Sludge with Metal Contamination
Campbell County Landfill - Gillette, WY
LBI was provided with a thick, black solution with a strong, pungent odor by the Campbell County Landfill staff. The sample was collected from a drain sump in former diesel technology training center shop. The solution had a high suspended solid content. The base liquid was analyzed for the “RCRA Eight” metals. Due to the high solids content, a 30/50 digestion was performed. DualZorb was hydrated with tap water and added to a mixing vessel, which contained one pound of the liquid, until the liquid was completely absorbed. Approximately one pound of hydrated DualZorb was required to absorb the liquid. In this test, DualZorb was hydrated with tap water in a separate container. The DualZorb was allowed to hydrate for approximately two minutes before being mixed with the liquid. After one minute of mixing DualZorb with the liquid to ensure complete absorption, a sample spent DualZorb was sent to Inter-Mountain Laboratories in Sheridan, WY for analysis. The results are summarized below:

Based on the highly effective DualZorb technology, PondZorb was developed as a quick and effective product to remove petroleum hydrocarbons floating on water. Just like DualZorb, PondZorb is an all natural wood fiber based product that quickly coagulates and encapsulates oil floating on water. The coagulated oil can easily be removed by hand or mechanical extraction.
EPA’s National Contingency Plan (NCP) Product Schedule
Subpart J of the EPA’s National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP) directs the EPA to prepare a schedule of dispersants, other chemicals, and oil spill mitigating devices and substances that may be used to remove or control oil discharges on navigable waters of the United States and adjoining shorelines, the waters of the contiguous zone, and the high seas beyond the contiguous zone. PondZorb meets NCP’s sorbent definition in 40 CFR 300.915(g)(1)(i)(B), but the regulation does not require their inclusion on the NCP Product Schedule if they meet the regulatory definition. A letter from EPA has been included in the regulatory correspondence section.
Recommend Coverage Area
Unlike DualZorb, PondZorb does not require hydration before use. The coverage area will depend upon the oil thickness. For small jobs, sheen of oil to 1/16”on the surface, our 5 gallon pail will cover approximately 600 square feet. As the oil thickness increases, this area is reduced. For more than a one inch of oil on the surface, we recommend mechanical extraction prior to PondZorb use.
Large Coverage Areas
For those larger jobs, we offer the value and convenience of 1,600 pound bulk bags. To simplify product disbursement on the water, LBI Renewable has developed the PondGun distribution system. The PondGun uses compressed air to extract PondZorb from the bulk bag and disperse over the water surface. The system only requires a maximum of 8 cfm at 90 psi and can move 75 pounds per minute of product.

In situations that demand acid neutralization before cleanup, LBI Renewable has developed AcidZorb. As with the entire LBI Renewable product line, AcidZorb is an all natural Environmentally Responsible Sorbent. It’s the green alternative to harsh chemical acid neutralizers and solidifiers. It quickly neutralizes and dries acid spills for easy clean-up and neutralizes acids without the vigorous chemical reaction. Once dried, the absorbed acid can be safely handled and disposed. AcidZorb neutralizes most typical acids, such as sulfuric (H2SO4; 10% and 50% concentration) and hydrochloric (HCI; 10% and 20% concentration).
(DualZorb – a component of AcidZorb – is a cellulose based product, caution should be used when working with strong oxidizers such as concentrated bleach, hydrogen peroxide acids like nitric and chromic acid).
TYPICAL DRY NEUTRALIZER ACIDZORB (Note the violent reaction) (Much less physical reaction)
AcidZorb is available in a convenient 6 pound shaker bottle for small spills and 30 gallon drums for those larger jobs. AcidZorb is applied dry directly on the spill and does not require hydration before use.

Small Beginnings, Big Idea
Founded in 2007 by Joe and Shelly St.Pierre, LBI LLC (dba LBI Renewable)
was formerly known as Little Bits Inc. (named after the cat that gave this
company its beginning). LBI started out as a cat litter company,
manufacturing an all-natural pellet made from beetle killed pine trees. Joe
threw some of the cat litter on an oil spill one day and was amazed at how
well it absorbed the oil.
After extensive testing and product development, LBI created a new
product called DualZorb. This wood fiber-based absorbent quickly
encapsulates most liquids from hard or ground surface spills and is used in
treating petroleum hydrocarbon and heavy metal contaminated soils.
Testing and product development continues today as we are constantly
finding diverse applications for our unique products. LBI is proud to
produce all natural and renewable products that “clean the environment
with the environment”.
