There is much talk about reducing our salt intake and many people have switched to salt substitutes. They taste okay but you should watch the potassium con- tent. Potassium is usually substituted for the sodium and people with kidney disease or diabetes should be cautious of taking in too much potassium. Some medications can increase potassium levels as well. Our pharmacists can advise you about this. Singing is good for your health. This is due to deeper breathing giving the diaphragm a good work- out. Singing also helps the immune system. Evidently antibody production goes up when we sing. Perhaps it’s because we are hav- ing a good time. It’s also good from a social point of view. Being part of a choir is working together to produce a beautiful ensem- ble sound. Very exhilarat- ing! Evidently one in three health care dollars are spent to care for the nine million people in Canada with chronic illnesses. Law, Ida Emily It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Ida Emily Law, 83, at Fairvern Nursing Home on Good Friday, March 21, 2008. Ida was born on Nov. 25, 1924 in St. Patrick’s, Quebec, a daughter to Albert Stevenson and Lillian Stevenson (nee Mann) and moved to Huntsville as a young woman. She married Bruce A. Law, who survives her, in Huntsville where they made their home. Mrs. Law is survived by their son, Bruce A.A. Law and wife Ronna and those she was grandmother to, Richard and Erica, all of Huntsville, sister Harriette Robinson and her family of St. Jerome, Quebec and brother Ernest Stevenson, his wife Phyllis, and their family of St. Patrick’s, Quebec. Ida Law is also survived by brother-in-law Arley Law, sisters-in-law Joyce Law, Audrey Earl, Annie Stevenson and their families, all of Huntsville. Mrs. Law is predeceased by brother Thomas Stevenson (Katrine, Ontario), brothers-in-law Vern Robinson (St. Jerome, PQ) and George Law (Huntsville, Ontario). Miss Ida, as she became known, found incredible joy in loving and caring for her family. She extended her heart and hands to all, continuously reaching out to anyone in need. Her love of life was evident in the passion she had for music. She played the violin and piano. Miss Ida’s warmth, her bright smile and sense of humour will be greatly missed. A private celebration of Ida’s life was held at Mitchell Funeral Home on March 26 with Archdeacon Dawn Henderson officiating. Interment will take place at Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery. Seaton, Donald L. The death occurred of Donald L. Seaton, 77, on March 31, 2008 at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital. The deceased was born on Jan. 18, 1931 in Toronto, the son of Clifford and Helen Seaton (Taylor). He married Anne L. Seaton (Duggan) on Oct. 25, 1986 in Scarborough, Ontario. His wife resides in Huntsville. Mr. Seaton is survived by his sons and daughters, Ric (Cheryl) Gutjahr, Jayne (Keith) Smiley, Scott (Rosemary) Seaton, Laurel (Jim) Rogers. Stepfather of Michael Duggan, Stephen (Jennifer) Duggan, Jeff (Donna) Duggan, Tim Duggan, Rob (Laudette) Duggan, and Lynda (Tom) Smith. Loving Poppa of Lisa, Rick, Kerri, David, Lynn, David, Angela, Jennifer, Laura, Andrea, Christine, Alexander, Jonathon, Shelby, Austin, Jamie and Alysha. Great-grandfather of Elliot, Aidric, Nathan and Rebekah, and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by sisters Gwen (Logan) Jenkins, and Arlene (Jim) Goyea. Predeceased by Marilyn Swann. Mr. Seaton was an employee of Consumers Gas for 40 years. He retired to Muskoka in 1988. Funeral service was conducted by Reverend Dawn Henderson at Billingsley Funeral Home on Thursday, April 3, 2008. Cremation has taken place, interment to follow. Don was a remarkable man, treasured and adored by his family, thoughtful and kind to everyone he met. He shared his superior intelligence with all. He was a wonderful teacher, though not by profession. He is sorely missed by all. In God’s care. Langford, Marlay The death occurred of Marlay Langford, 87, in Huntsville on April 18, 2008. The deceased was born in Wales on Nov. 15, 1920. His wife Margaret resides in Huntsville. Mr. Langford is survived by one daughter, Sonia (David) of Huntsville. He bowled every Tuesday with the Huntsville Seniors and Club 55. Mr. Langford retired before moving to Huntsville and enjoyed his retirement. Funeral service was conducted by Reverend Dawn Henderson of All Saints’ Anglican Church at Billingsley Funeral Home on April 20, 2008. Cornwell, George The death occurred of George Cornwell, 70, on April 12, 2008 in Huntsville, Ontario. The deceased was born in Toronto on Oct. 4, 1937, the son of the late Sydney and Edna (Jordan) Cornwell. He married Blanche (Conron) on July 24, 1975 in Kitchener, Ontario. His wife resides in Huntsville. Mr. Cornwell is survived by one son and two daughters, Susan and Charles Switzer of Orillia, Ginny and Patrick Kingston of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Jeff and Danielle Underdown of Sudbury, Ontario. Predeceased by his sister Doreen Auston and son Kirby. Also survived by Joan Smith of Bewdley, Ontario, Syd of Huntsville, Fred and Gloria of Burk’s Falls, Dianne and Bob Smith of North Bay, Sharon Swain of Toronto, Joe of Toronto, Helen of Halifax and many grand- children and great-grandchildren. McMullen, Brian ‘Mick’ The death occurred of Brian “Mick” McMullen, 60, on April 13, 2008 at Huntsville District Memorial Hospital. The deceased was born on Dec. 13, 1947. He married Sally McMullen of Huntsville on July 13, 1972 in Bracebridge. Mr. McMullen is survived by one son and one daughter, Shawn (Tamar) McMullen and Alison McMullen. Also sur- vived by his mother, Isabelle McMullen, sisters Sharon (Mervin) Aitheson, Kathy Healy, Helen Guibeault, Rosanne McMullen, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his father, Joe McMullen, and brother Steven McMullen. Mr. McMullen was a truck driver. A memorial service was conducted on April 16, 2008 at Billingsley Funeral Home. Mrs. McKay was born on July 29, 1913 in Dorset, the daughter of Hiram and Hattie (Remey) Barry. She married Hector N. McKay on Jan. 7, 1933 in Bracebridge, Ontario. Her husband prede- ceased her. Mrs. McKay is survived by one son and two daughters, Earl (Marilyn) of Brighton, Janet (Darcy) Roberts of Huntsville, and Susan (Terry) Brady of Toronto. Also survived by granddaugh- ters Wanda and Darlene Sawyer, Heather and Lianne McKay, great-grandsons Blair and Mory Ford, step-granddaughter Jennifer (Brady) Parfitt, great- granddaughters Isabella (Murray) McKay, Blair and Kory Ford, step-great-grandchildren Fiona and Alex Parfitt.
