THE BIGGEST LOSER (REALLY THE

BIGGEST WINNER!!) TAKES IT ALL

The “The Biggest Loser” televisionshow became a real life experience foreleven LMHA employees who recentlyconducted their own version by holdinga competition to see who could lose themost weight.

Beginning in August, the employees metregularly to weigh in and post reportsof who had lost the highest percentage(actual weight and number of poundsremained confidential). Similar to thetelevision show whose participantscompete to lose weight in hopes ofwinning a grand prize, these fearlessemployees put their money “on the line”weekly by putting in $5 each at weigh in.

When the results were tallied inNovember, Shelly Winstead came inthird place ($75), LaTasha Kilgore came

in second place ($225) and the bigwinner (or should I say the biggest loser)winning $525 was Yvonne Feger! “It wasfun seeing who the biggest loser waseach week and who had the lead,” saidAngela Sharp, Finance. “Althougheveryone chose their own method ofweight loss, the folks who exercisedcame out as the winners.”

We’ve already had a few snowflakes,and many more are surely on theway! When the first big snowfallhits, please note the followingsafety precautions before you grabthe shovel:

• Do not shovel after eating orwhile smoking.

• Take it slow – shoveling (likelifting weights) can raise yourheart rate and blood pressuredramatically.

• Pace yourself and be sure tostretch out and warm up beforetaking on the task.

• Shovel only fresh snow. Freshfallen, powdery snow is easier toshovel than the wet, packed-downvariety.

• Don’t pick up too much at once.Use a small shovel or fill onlyone-forth or one-half of alarge one.

• Do not work to the point ofexhaustion. If you run out ofbreath, take a break. If you feeltightness in your chest, stopimmediately.

• Dress warmly. Remember thatextremities, such as the nose,ears, hands and feet need extraattention during winter’s cold.

• Individuals over 40, or those whoare relatively inactive, should beespecially careful.

• If you have a history of hearttrouble, do not shovel withouta doctor’s permission.

2 jars spaghetti sauce (Ragu, Prego, etc.)

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef, browned anddrained

1 medium onion, chopped

Pepper and garlic to taste

1 tablespoon butter or margarine

1 can or jar mushroom slices or pieces

1 pkg. pepperoni slices

8 oz. mozzarella cheese, grated

1 pkg. spaghetti, cooked and drained

Sauté the onion, pepper and garlicin butter. Brown the ground beef,then drain. Combine the groundbeef, spaghetti sauce, mushroomsand sautéed onion and seasonings.In a 9X13 (large) casserole dish, layerthe sauce mixture, cooked spaghetti,cheese and pepperoni. Then repeatanother layer in the same manner.Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
