Principals reportYou just can’t keep Anna down. Despite battling the flu all week, Anna has impressed selectors at the CHS Soccer Championships held in Kirrawee this week. Anna scored four goals for the Western Region team, to claim her spot in the CHS team. Anna now travels to Sydney in a fortnight’s time to compete at the NSW All School Soccer Championships. Congratulations Anna on all your achievements in soccer. Our intermediate debating team consisting of Brett and Brendan Knight, Hugo Fenton and George Mitton took to the debating game like ducks to water this week. Using the video-conferencing facilities, our team came up against Coonamble High School in the first round of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. Arguing the affirmative, Should sporting clubs be punished for their player’s off field actions? was a gift to our sports-loving team, taking out the debate comfortably. The team now waits to hear who they will debate in the second round. Well done!

We would like to share an email we received this week from Mrs Mary Moffit on behalf of the Catholic Debutante Ball. On 25th May 2019 St Joseph’s Parish Grenfell organised and conducted the Grenfell debutante ball. Most of the 11 debutantes and their partners were students from your school. It was a wonderful evening and memorable, I’m sure, to all the young people and their family and friends who also attended. On behalf of St Joseph’s Parish and the organisers, I would like to congratulate all the students for their co-operation, conduct and willingness to follow the directions of all the organisers. They were indeed a wonderful group of young people who you should be very proud to have as students at your school. As matron of honour I had the privilege of introducing the debs and their partners to the deputy prime minister of Australia, Mr Michael McCormack and his wife Catherine, who were our official guests for the night. Michael also commented on what a fine group of young people he had been introduced to.

Once again under the expertise of Mr McKnight, our school band has impressed at the Cowra Eisteddfod

taking out both the school band and open band sections with a very credible 95 points. Feedback from the adjudicators was very positive stating The Henry Lawson High School band is an ensemble that any principal should be extremely proud to have at the school and they make it a joy to listen. Congratulations Mr McKnight and band. We are all very proud of you.

While many of us will be enjoying the Henry Lawson Festival this weekend, Year 7 student Josh Chalker will be travelling to Maitland as part of the Central West Rugby Union Under 13’s team to compete at the state championships. Josh’s selection in the position of flanker, backs up his selection in the 2018 Central West Rugby Union under 12’s team as well as the 2018 Western Region Rugby Union PSSA team. Good luck Josh!

It was great to see the local primary schools at our school for the festival play day on Thursday. It looked like a lot of effort had been put into producing the items. Well done to the students and their teachers. If you are at the festival this weekend, come and visit our stand. We will have student work on display and for sale, and a wood raffle is being run by Year 8 students. You can test your science and engineering skills on our string-ways game and pick up your special festival edition of the newsletter. Have a safe and happy long weekend. Aaron FlaggPrincipal
