Manchester Law graduates are highly regarded by thelegal profession, and each year many of our studentssecure training contracts and pupillages with themost prestigious law firms and barristers’ chambers. The School of Law was ranked joint seventh in theUK for graduate prospects by The Times GoodUniversity Guide 2013. Every graduate has aguaranteed place to study on the Legal PracticeCourse (LPC) with one of three major courseproviders, if they achieve a minimum 2:2 degree.

Law LLB (Hons) 3yrsUCAS Code M100
The LLB is the largest undergraduate course that weoffer. It covers the basic subjects of legal study, whilealso providing you with a diverse choice of specialistoptions to suit your particular interests and careerplans. It is a qualifying law degree (QLD) and thusprovides exemption from the Graduate Diploma inLaw, which is otherwise required if you wish tobecome a barrister or solicitor.
In the first and second years you will study the corelaw course units required for the QLD: Contract Law,Torts Law, Land Law, Equity and Trusts, EuropeanUnion Law, Public Law and Criminal Law. In yoursecond and third years you will also be able to studyseveral specialist course units, including other unitsfrom the University’s Faculty of Humanities.
The School of Law offers a wide choice of specialistcourse units in law. These range from Family Law toLaw and Ethics in War and Warfare, from CompanyLaw to Mental Health Law, from Employment Law toLegal History, and from Criminal Evidence to Law ofFreedom of Expression.
It is also possible to submit a dissertation in place ofone of your specialist course units.
Law with Criminology LLB (Hons) 3yrsUCAS Code M1M9
This Joint Honours course builds on the many linksbetween the related disciplines of law andcriminology. Many of our staff take a socio-legalapproach to their research and teaching, which iswell suited to this course.
An advantage of taking law and criminology in oneinterdisciplinary School (as compared to taking a courserun jointly by two different Schools) is that we are ableto provide an integrated, coherent course that allowsmany topics to be approached from the viewpoint ofboth disciplines. Some subjects are taught by lawyersand criminologists working together. Some teachingstaff carry out research on topics that require anunderstanding of both disciplines, such as sentencingand the treatment of victims of crime, so you willbenefit from up-to-date thinking and knowledge.
By following Track 1 of the course, you will completethe core course units required for a QLD. Track 2specialises increasingly in criminology or specialist lawcourse units of your choice.
Law with Politics LLB (Hons) 3yrsUCAS Code LM21
This Joint Honours course builds on the many linksbetween the two sister disciplines of politics and law.Our expertise makes Manchester an especially goodplace to study in this increasingly important field. It isa QLD and thus provides exemption from theGraduate Diploma in Law, which is otherwiserequired if you wish to become a barrister or solicitor.
The Law part of the course provides you with a solidand comprehensive grounding in key legal principles,as well as enabling you to specialise in particularareas of interest in later years.
In Politics, we introduce you to leading approaches inareas such as international relations and Europeanpolitics, as well as core theoretical concepts. Buildingon this foundation, you are free to follow yourparticular interests within the field of politics in yoursecond and third years.
Law with Politics BA (Hons) 3yrsUCAS Code M1L2
The course content is the same as that for LM21above, the difference being that you have a choice asto whether you wish to obtain a QLD as part of thiscourse. You will make this choice at the start of yoursecond year.

Manchester is one of only a fewuniversities to offer Law with Politics, Idid both subjects at A-level and didn’twant to ‘give up’ Politics when I came touniversity. The course seemed like theperfect mix of the two sisterdisciplines.
