    Welcome Back to School

    Laveen Leadership Academy Community:

Believe it or not, the school year has started. We are very excited to have all of our students back. As you and your child settle back into your routines, I want you to think about one word. That one word is oppor-tunity. At Laveen Leadership Academy, your family will have many op-portunities to get involved. As a Leader in Me school, students will have the opportunity to assume leadership roles inside and outside of the classroom. Students interested in assuming a role outside of our class-room can apply for a school-wide job in September.

Parents and community partners play an important role at Laveen Lead-ership Academy as well. Last year, parents volunteered during various school functions and actively participated in our PTO. We would like our parents to play more of an active role this year. We are hoping to accom-plish two goals by the end of the year. First and foremost, we would like each classroom to have a homeroom parent to be involved in the PTO. In addition, we would like our parents to draft a parent compact. Our par-ent compact would be used to outline parent involvement expectations at Laveen Leadership Academy.

I want to leave you with a quote from Tomorrowland: “There are two wolves who are always fighting. One is darkness and despair. The other is light and hope. The Question is: Which wolf wins? The answer… The one you feed.” This year we ask that you help us feed the right wolf and create Tomorrowland at Laveen!

    Sincerely yours,

    Dr. Joe Roselle

  • Gifted Education

The Laveen Elementary School District believes that early identifi-

cation is important for the intellectual and emotional health of gift-

ed children because it enables early intervention. Consequently, the

Governing Board of the Laveen Elementary School District has

adopted a multifaceted approach to screening and identification.

Students who exhibit gifted characteristics may be referred for gift-

ed testing. Copies of referral forms are available at all district

schools and the district office. Gifted referral forms will be provid-

ed to all parents or guardians upon request.

Gifted services are provided at each school in the Laveen District.

Laveen’s gifted program is designed to encourage excellence and

optimal talent development among gifted students. Instruction for

gifted students K-8 is individualized through differentiated instruc-

tion in the classroom on a daily basis. Appropriate modifications are

made in the learning environment and in the complexity and organi-

zation of content to be mastered. Learning and thinking process are

emphasized. A variety of service options are provided to enhance

the unique potentials of each gifted student.

Please contact Rowe Van Meter, Gifted Education Instructional

Coach for more information. [email protected]

The Gifted Education L.E.A.A.P. Program wel-comes back all the gifted students and their parents. This year's enrichment theme is “Building Intelligent Cities.” Students will experi-ence a multi-disciplinary ex-ploration as they learn why people create cities, how cities evolve, how cities can be sustainable, and how they use technology to man-age information, resources and energy. Look for news-letters and flyers on green paper for this year’s gifted events including parent clas-ses, field trips, and family enrichment nights.

    Community Circles

This year we are conducting community circles each morn-

ing in every classroom across our amazing campus. In our

community circles, teachers will be conducting lessons and

discussions on appropriate behavior and expectations. Each grade level will identify behaviors

and expectations they want to work on, and teachers will model the appropriate behavior for

students. We are a Leader In Me school, and community circles will also be a time when we

discuss and learn more about “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. As Dr. Roselle

and Mr. Ketcham visit community circles each morning, we are seeing great community circle

lessons and we are very excited about the impact we are already seeing on campus!
