Now in its 83rd year, the annual Lansing Fish Days celebration will begin Thursday, August 7 at 6:30 p.m. with traditional Bingo games in the Kee High School cafeteria. The event is sponsored by, and will bene t, the Kee High School Spanish Club and will include the awarding of exciting prizes!

Crafts, music, adult and child shing tournaments, pony rides, softball tournament, wrist wrestling and many other events will commence Friday, with the Festival Grounds/Lansing Sports Complex opening at 4 p.m. at the corner of John and Second Streets. The $5.00 admission button covers most of the events and activities for all three days, including the Kids In atables. The Lansing area scouts will be holding other free activities for the kids that night also, including minnow races and face painting.

The always entertaining co-ed softball tournament kicks off at 6 p.m. and will run until midnight. WAGG will be playing at the re station, starting at 8 p.m. and playing until 1 a.m.

Extra fees are charged for some of the competitive team events, such as the Bean Bag Toss, Wrist Wrestling, Softball Tournament, 5K and 8K walk/run and ve-man

football. Contact Tyler Verdon, 563-379-4544, for information about the 5K and 8K runs, which begin with registration at 8 a.m. Saturday morning and include a t-shirt.

There will also be an adult shing tournament, as well as the ever popular youth shing tournament taking place Saturday. A free childrens carnival will be held at the Festival Grounds from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon. A reworks display is scheduled to take place from 9-9:30 p.m.

If you are the more cerebral type you will be interested in visiting the River History Museum located along the river across from the Fire Station. Lansings commercial shing exhibits are displayed along with other Lansing memorabilia.

And, of course, food and drinks are available from various vendors, downtown merchants and the local re department. For all you bakers, a dessert judging contest will be offered at 2 p.m. Saturday, and for the eaters, a dessert auction

will follow. Fish dinners, of course, can be purchased at the VFW and brats and hotdogs will be available from the Lansing Fire Department. The fest area will be lined with food vendors just waiting to satisfy your craving for dessert.

Sunday is a great day to relax and recover from the weekend while watching the parade, and attending the ecumenical church service. The kids are sure to get plenty of candy at the parade to share with their parents and grandparents.

Get your Fish Days T-shirts at Welshs Farm and Home prior to and during Fish Days or at entry gates and the Lions Club Booth during the event. The schedule published within this section provides great direction to all of this years events, but may be subject to change prior to the start of the event. Feel free to check the Fish Days website (www.lansing shdays.com) for up-to-date information, registration forms and contact information.
