Accelerated Italian at Rosebank College

Do you want to propel your qualifications in Italian?Do you want to complete your study of HSC Italian in advance?

Rosebank College is committed to offering students the opportunity to study a language as a Stage 5 Elective (Year 9 & 10) and as a senior course in Stage 6 (Year 11 & 12). French and Italian are currently offered, with Accelerated Learning and Enrichment opportunities for students studying the Italian language. Students may also study a language of choice through the Saturday School of Community Languages and Open High School.

Eligibility criteria for entry into the Accelerated Italian program include:• Study of Italian at a Primary Bilingual School (e.g. IBS or IGS)• Study of Italian at a Saturday School of Community Languages• Attendance at school in Italy for a significant period of time• Proficient use of Italian (reading, writing, speaking) in a non-school environment

Accelerated students gain automatic entry into the Stage 5 Italian course. Here they complete an equivalent of a Year 9 and Year 10 Italian program of study. Having completed Stage 5 successfully, students move into Stage 6 Italian (preliminary HSC, HSC). This would mean that when students are in Year 10 they would be studying HSC Italian and sitting for the HSC Italian Continuers examination.

In Term 4 of Year 11, students who have completed their HSC Italian Continuers course and examination may undertake the study of the Italian Extension Course (1 Unit). Students would then only sit for their Italian Extension Exam in their HSC year.

Accelerated students will combine with other students in their particular stage of study. This would provide a stimulating and dynamic environment in which to learn the language, enabling collaborative learning as well as teacher centred learning.

Eligibility for the Accelerated Italian program will be based on an entrance exam. IBS students will be ex-empt from this process and will gain automatic entry into the program.

Upon enrolment, parents are asked to nominate a desire for inclusion into the Program and an assessment will be organised.
