The following reflection is based on the text “Language in Society/Society in Language” and it is focused on the main contents covered in this section. This chapter it is mainly centered on the differences between linguistic concepts.

Firstly, there is a big amount of examples of languages and dialects that exist in Papua New Guinea; which I think were confusing and excessive. Even though I got confused by some many names and comparison, as long as I read, I found some more interesting points of view and explanations.

The confusion among linguistics terms such as ‘language’, ‘dialect’ and ‘accent’ is perfectly common in our reality as language learners, but I realized that once you read this material the confusion disappears. I have to admit that this time the examples did help me understand the explanations.

One of the things that got me thinking is the difficultly that represents to linguistics to define terms such as ‘language’ and ‘dialect’ because even though it seems as simply question, it is not because all of the matters that contribute to this definition of concepts.

I believe this material is a good help for everyone who is learning English, but especially for future teachers, because we have to be able to differentiate the diverse terms and be capable of providing good examples to our students in the future. This chapter clarifies common mistakes related to linguistics terms that we usually make and states that it is not easy to define terms of linguistics matters. This may not be the best text I have ever read, but it helped me improve my knowledge and vocabulary due to some specific vocabulary.
