Leadership and Management

Tel: 01257 516100 Email: [email protected] Web: www.learningexellence.net/publications Lancashire Professional Development Service - Publications and Resources Catalogue (2012 -2013)

Framework for Leadership The Framework sets out core leadership elements in order to facilitate common understanding, language and definition across partner organisations. It meets the aims of the 2020 Children and Young People's Workforce Strategy and the national framework for ‘Leading and Managing Children’s Services’ and is linked to the five outcomes and the Common Core of Skills and Knowledge. It is intended to support the improvement of delivery of services to children, young people and families and is endorsed by the partners within the Lancashire Children's Trust Partnership Board.

It is intended for partners to use as an overarching leadership framework to inform leadership development programmes, performance management and personal development plans. Leadership programmes may reflect some or all of the 18 elements in the Framework to enable linkages across partner programmes and the development of joint integrated common modules. It will facilitate the transferability of skills and competencies across sectors and support the introduction of the Integrated Qualifications Framework. As a basis for preparing aspiring leaders for integrated leadership and management roles, it will assist in breaking down some of the current barriers created by ‘silo’ working. The Framework is a key part of the Trust’s succession strategy both in preparing for leadership and in informing future recruitment linked to competencies.

The Framework addresses leadership at all levels within partner organisations, but each partner will need to identify the leadership requirements of roles within their hierarchies and apply these to their organisational values, beliefs and ambitions. The framework can be used to support integration of service leadership and the development of leadership of integrated services. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then is not an act, but a habit" Aristotle Thisresourceincludesahardandelectroniccopy(onCDRom)oftheFrameworkforLeadership.

Music

Carnival of the Animals French composer Saint Saens composed The Carnival of the Animals to be performed with friends at his Mardi Gras party. Based on his careful and humorous observations of animals and people, these wonderful musical portraits are just as fresh and amusing today as they were in 1886. Lancashire and Cumbria music services have joined with Lancashire Sinfonietta to generate a wealth of creative opportunities and challenges for primary children throughout Cumbria and Lancashire. Conservationists, West African musicians, a classical Indian and Bollywood dancer - even a Hip Hop poet - have joined the team to produce an astounding array of online, CD Rom and DVD resources to underpin the project. There is no single way of approaching Le Carnaval des Animeux in the classroom. The resources offer many perspectives and creative possibilities, and time taken to explore the CD Rom and DVD will be time well spent!
